I won't be able to think about much for the entire day.

Please ptich well tonight Z, you are the key to the game.

I like the Cubs chances tonight. Webb is kind of a poor man's Greg Maddux, which plays right into the Cubs agressive approach at the plate. If he's on it won't matter, but if he misses in the early innings the Cubs will hit him.

Yeah, 1990s Maddux, and not a very poor-man's version.

Webb is not that close to Maddux in his prime, but then again what non-power pitcher in recent times was?

Yeah, Maddux in his prime was as good as it gets. Webb is just good.

I'm doing a pretty good job so far of keeping busy to pass the time more quickly.

I mean, except for my visit to this thread every 15 minutes.

Won't 9pm just get here already?!!?!!!!

i seriously can't think of any other thing than this ballgame tonite...work is going to BLOW!

To think that yesterday, I left a bunch of work for today thinking 'the game is at 9pm, I'll be able to keep my mind off of it all day'

Personally, I would've gone

Soriano, DeRosa, Lee, Ramirez, Floyd, Soto, Jones, Theriot

But I can't complain too much. At least the right players are playing.

They announced the lineup on the Score this morning. How accurate can that be?

I don't recall it exactly after the 5th hole, but I believe it's as follows:

Soriano

Theriot

Lee

Floyd

Ramirez

Jones

DeRo

Soto

Z

That's a solid lineup. I think I'd rather have Sori, DeRo, Lee, Floyd, Ramirez, Soto, Jones, Theriot, but I won't complain if that is the lineup. I didn't like Floyd before Ramirez at first, but it's seemed to work whenever they do it.

DeRosa should hit #2. With Soto in the lineup, no reason NOT to hit Theriot 8th. I can understand some with Kendall in the lineup, but he shouldn't be in the lineup, so that's another issue.

Unless Soto starts to struggle, I don't want to see Kendall in the lineup at all. With all the off days, its not like we'd need it.

Anyone know of any drink specials in Wrigleyville tonight? The only one I've heard about is Redmonds is doing $10 buckets and $0.50 wings. I don't want to go to Redmonds. It is a Vikings/Badgers bar.

Can't concentrate. Must do work, but can't concentrate. Come on 9pm. This is killing me.

We were just discussing here at work ... it's not bad enough that you have to get through the work day. But then...

You get home, unwind, make dinner, eat dinner, and guess what... it's still not game time!

I had a dream last night about watching the game. It was 2-1 Cubs in the 6th when, for some reason, I decided to start watching Forest Gump on USA Network. So I am watching for awhile when I realize that I forgot about the Cubs game! So I flip back over, and to my shock it is 33-27 Diamondbacks in the 8th, but the Cubs had the bases loaded and 0 outs. Gosh I hope my dream doesn't come true.

You should have looked closer. You actually had switched over to the Bears/Packers game, LOL.

Umm, you really think the Bears offense can score 27?

Agree with others, Theriot should be nowhere near the 2-spot.

the correct response would have been "yes, but there is just one thing that would take my mind off of it for a little while"

He just seems like someone Webb can dominate. A hitter that likes to hit ball high in the zone...ugh

Honestly, this matchup scares me. Something tells me Z's like will be like 7IP 3 H 2 ER 8K 4 BB and Webb's line will be like 7 IP 2 H 0 ER 9 K 1 BB.

But don't fret if we lose game 1 to a staff ace guys. There are multiple examples of teams getting shut down by a team's ace and then coming back to win the next 3 games. 2 games I can think of are Johan Santana dominating the Yankees in Game 1 (in New York no less) and the Yankees winning the next 3 (I think in 2003) and Jason Schmidt dominating the Marlins in 2003 and the Marlins coming back to win the next 3. So be worried, but don't freak out if the Cubs drop this one.

“I'm on a team that is in first place,” left fielder Eric Byrnes said. “As far as I'm concerned, all the stat geeks really don't come into play in this situation.”

Yeah, Byrnes, Young and Reynolds (and Jackson to a lesser extent) have been adamant about defending themselves against Pythag. It's kind of funny how big a deal something like that has become in the mainstream media.

I think Pythag is something the media can get behind because it doesn't involve a complex formula. It's just a comparison of runs scored vs runs allowed, and they get that.

I think the only 2 other teams to make the playoffs with a minus in RS/RA were the 84 Royals and Padres a couple of years ago. Those teams won 84 and 83 games respectively. This years Diamondbacks are kind of a oddity. A first in baseball history if you must. Winning 90 and making the playoffs with a losing Pythag. I think that is why the mainstream media is picking up on it.

I will say that if "knowing how to win" was such a valuable skill, how come more teams havent done it in history. Also if "knowing how to win" was such a skill how come the 84 Royals and 05 Padres got eliminated from the playoffs rather quickly.

I'm surprised more teams don't devote more time to learning how to win. It must be funny in the Diamondback's dugout snickering at the other teams who are trying to not score more runs.
