I guess I still don't understand what it means to use Monroe properly.

Properly = Very Sparingly

BELT THIEF!!!!!!

I am absolutely embarrassed by the fact that I once traded Brandon Webb for Craig Monroe and Orlando Hernandez in a sim league.

It was after the 2004 season though, so it wasn't too bad at the time, especially when salaries were taken into account.

besides the Pierre trade, how has he "torn our minor leagues apart"? Seems more like a lot of prospects simply didn't work out

I was just thinking that it was during the playoffs last year when Lou was announcing. He had some sort of Man crush on Monroe. This is the reason that stuck in my head that I didnt want Lou to be our manager.

After an hour of cooling down, I just hope he hits well for us and we win the WS. I still think its just another case of Cubs hoping someone else's trash will for some reason be better with the Cubs. I think its funny that the Tigers who are a legitimate WS contender would rather play a AA player.

I'm thinking this as well, but I don't remember if it was the same guy. I do remember Lou slobbering all over some obscure guy though.

As long as he doesn't get regular playing time, this isn't that bad of a move. He'll be a good power bat off the bench.

As politely as he could, Hendry basically made it clear that Monroe is here to face LHP. I'm thinking/hoping he's going to be Jacque's platoon partner in CF, the top bat off the bench to face lefties out of the pen and get an occasional start on the corner based on matchups.

I am pretty sure it was Monroe. He couldnt criticize Granderson enough. I think Grandersons game does have some holes in it but he was better than Monroe last year and much younger.

I would be willing to bet $10 that most of his starts will be in for Murton. If the Cubs make the playoffs Murton will not be on the playoff roster and will be traded when his value is its lowest this off-season.

People keep complaining about Monroe replacing Murton. True, Murton is much better than Monroe, and this move likely spells the end of his playing time. But even if this is the case, it won't have any perceptible effect because Murton hardly plays as it is.

And whining about the whining about Murton. It's like a never-ending cycle.

So what's the 40-man roster move? Angel Pagan to the 60-day DL? Neal Cotts or Buck Coats DFA'd?

Buck Coats was designated for assignment.

You say that like it's a bad thing. Murton has hit .250/.314/.328 against lefties this year. If Murton were producing against LHP like he had in the past I doubt they make this trade. For any number of reasons Murt hasn't been productive this season and he isn't showing signs of improving.

When will you learn that every player, transaction, opinion, or topic on this board eventually turns into whining about Murton?

I know, it's crazy. The Cubs get a guy to replace Murton who plays his position and hits from the same side of the plate and his name gets brought up. Who knew?

Actually, if you heard Hendry, he stated that Monroe was a right-handed bat off the bench to replace some of the kids. Lou will make the final decision on playing time, but Hendry made it sound like he is a right-handed pinch hitter.

Yeah and my point is that he made it pretty clear that Monroe isn't here to play everyday and face a lot of RHP which is what I was hoping to hear. He's here to be our right-handed bat off the bench against LHP and can play any of the outfield spots when we face a lefty.

Excellent pick-up this late in the year. We need to find a righthanded hitting outfield who can actually hit. We found some with some pop.
