(I know some people on here will LOVE this stat)....

I think another reason he's here is because he's "Clutch"

His #s with RISP and 2 outs are pretty damn good...

.315/.383 (53 ab sample size)....

I bet Hendry took this into account.

I'm certain he did.

1. Monroe is likely Pagan's replacement as the CF v. LHP.

2. 2 wins? Laughable. PECOTA pegs Monroe as 2.9 WARP over 500 plate appearances and Murton as a 3.6 WARP over 460 plate appearances. There's not a 2 win difference between Monroe and Murton if they each played every day over the course of an entire season. The notion that there's a two win difference between them in the 10-12 games we play against LHP the rest of the season is utterly laughable.

We'll see, Warren. This move costs us the playoffs when Craig starts over Murton constantly, and drives Pie out of the rotation. Soriano doesn't fix anything, either, because then his starts move to CF. We'll be too far down the drain when it becomes obvious to the Cubs that picking low-OBP guys from other teams' waste heaps isn't the way to run a team.

If you have any faith at all that he'll be used properly (as if there is a way to do that with a career .303 OBP guy), then it won't hurt as much.

This is Lou Piniella we're talking about here. Another terrible manager, although I'll admit that there is no such thing as a good manager.

I would trade Murton for a bag of hair just so I dont have to hear how he's the second coming of Christ anymore.

But then we would hear it even worse every time he gets a hit with his new team.

Good RH power threat off the bench, something we've been lacking all year. We likely won't be giving up anything significant. Nice addition.

It's always fun to have a guy who is a legit threat to hit a HR off the bench, and nothing more. But he hasn't been able to do anything against RHP this year. Need to keep his playing time very limited.

DO you think Lou will be limiting his playing time? I see him filling in for Floyd & Murton a lot more. Which is terrible. Lou may even try to play him in CF.

See you in a few weeks Fox or Pie.

Right, because Lou is such a terrible manager. He just does dumb stuff all the time. He certainly isn't getting the most out of this team.

not saying that lou is terrible, but "getting the most out of this team?" you have to be kidding. it's a $100 mil team that's like four games over .500. if that's the "most," i don't want to see the "least."

By your standards the Yankees and their $200MM ++ payroll should win every game of the season. I know you really don't believe that the amount of payroll = talent available for a manager to use. Lou didn't spend the $100MM and most people would agree that he does done a good job with the resources he was given to work with.

Hopefully he knocks a few big HR against some lefties, avoids nearly all righties, and comes up with a big hit or two in the playoffs. Then let him walk after the season.

The '07 version of Randall Simon.

Unfortunately he might have used up all of his postseason, big hit luck last year.

I think one thing Lou has shown is that he can read splits pretty well.

Jones got a lot less time against left-handers than any year in his career, until the last couple weeks when the only other option (Pie) was worse than he was.

Ward is the first pinch-hitter against right-handers and the last against left-handers.

Lou stuck with his plan to only give Fox starts against left-handers because of his splits, while he gave Murton more starts against right-handers because his splits weren't nearly so extreme.

Seeing all this, I don't see how Monroe starts against more than 2 right-handers this year. Lou attaches too much value into the splits to disregard Monroe's.

You better believe it. I plan on being unbearable.

You'd also have to get used to it, because he is going to be a very good player for somebody. Sadly, it looks like it won't be the Cubs more and more every day.

What I think should really concern people is if he puts up a few "clutch" homers. The Cubs back into the playoffs and then Hendry signs his sorry can to a 3yr 15mill contract. Not only is Murton a better option against Lefties now he will probably be gone next year as we get Monroe for 300 ABs. This is typical LOSER MENTALITY from the biggest losers in pro sports.

Two problems with your argument:

1. Pie isn't even in the rotation. He is used as a pinch runner/late inning defense replacement.

2. Murton wasn't going to play anyways. Lou had Floyd, Jones and Fox starting vs. the LHP last night. There is something between Murton and Lou (or an injury) that we may never be privy to, but to think Murton is going to get alot of playing time the rest of this year with or without Monroe is ridiculous.

Just like he did with Randall Simon, right?

Sweet, more ignorant baseless dramatization of what people are saying about Murton. Awesome.

He's also outstanding with the bases loaded: .429/.438 (14 abs)

With a Man on 2nd: .353/.436 (34 abs); and

with men on and 2 out: .296/.367(71 abs)

Plus, if we bat him 5th: .357/.357 (14 abs) we are golden.

If the Cubs win the World Series on a Monroe walk off HR, I could care less if hendry resigns him or not.

Drives Pie out of the rotation? He's not in the rotation and doesn't belong in the rotation this year. And why would you be upset that it drives him out of the rotation? He's been completely overmatched this year.

Did you look at his stats compared to Murton against lefties this year that I posted? Murton has been terrible, Monroe has been good. It's that simple. Have you compared his power numbers to Murton's or any of our other outfielders?

I don't care about his OBP (which by the way is better against LHP than Murton's this year). I'm not looking for an everyday productive player in Monroe. I'm looking for a guy who can provide a little power against lefties and hit for a decent average. Just like I'm not too upset that Kendall gives us no SLG. He gets on-base and isn't an automatic out like our other catchers.

We aren't in a position to add good all-around everyday players. You just try to add guys with specific skill sets and put them together into a tolerable combination. Definitely not ideal, but it's reality at this point.

Im kidding. I like Murton, but not as much as some apparently.

So what's the 40-man roster move? Angel Pagan to the 60-day DL? Neal Cotts or Buck Coats DFA'd?
