Would they not be behind the losers in the divisional round, even if they have a worse record?
Not based on my interpretation of the statement on nfl.com.
Priority of playoff clubs within a tied segment is based on their advancement in the playoffs' date=' but they do not drop out of their tied segment unless they participate in the Super Bowl.[/quote']To me that says the Saints are behind other 10-6 teams because they advanced further, but still ahead of teams with better records regardless of playoff advancement. The key is the meaning of the term "tied segment." I think "tied segment" refers to a group of teams with the same record.

I think you may be right.

Colt Brennan withdraws from the 2007 draft.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2734347

Excellent decision. He will likely be in or near the top five Heisman candidates preseason and should be guaranteed a first round selection next year if he repeats his numbers.

I think that's highly debatable. Brohm, Ainge, Henne, and Booty are all likely to go ahead of him. The last spread QB taken in the first round was Losman and he's been very mediocre in the pros, not leading a lot of credence to spread offense QB's translating their collegiate success to the pro game.

A lot will depend on team needs (how many QBs go in the first round) and who declares/has a good season.

Assuming Brennan repeats, he'll be behind Brohm for sure. Henne and Ainge are potentially susceptible to having less than standout years. Henne I'm not completely sold on (a lot of that offense seems to be Mike Hart) and Ainge will be without a true threat at receiver for the early portion of the year with our three top receivers leaving and the current crop talented but all with a year or less of experience. Also, I don't think its a guarantee Booty leaves early.

Brennan could be anywhere from the second to the fifth QB taken.

Minor detail but Booty will be a senior next year so he won't have the option of leaving early.

This could be interesting. Could Quinn/Russell/Johnson end up in Atlanta?

The Raiders are preparing to make a run at Michael Vick, according to NFL sources. The Raiders package would include receivers Randy Moss and Jerry Porter plus the No.1 overall pick in the 2007 draft for Vick and the Falcons first round pick (10th overall).

Interesting move if that happens. I suppose the Raiders should get rid of all their receivers and go to a wishbone offense.

1. Please no Ron Mexico.

2. If you are going to go after him, don't trade the #1 pick. Keep it and take Calvin Johnson so Vick actually has somebody to throw the ball to.

Posted
What has Vick done that would require Moss, Porter, and a #1 pick?

Wow....

I actually think the Falcons are giving up too much in that scenario. Porter has very little trade value at this point even though he's talented. There are only certain teams that are willing to take on Moss. Atlanta also has to give up the number 10 pick

Basically it's Vick and moving up 9 spots for Atlanta and getting Moss and Porter in return-that doesn't help Atlanta that much at all. I just don't see that particular deal working out.

Posted
I think if the Raiders made that trade (Moss, Porter and the #1 overall for Vick and the #10 overall) I would seriously consider picking another team to root for.

This is the kind of dumb stuff that has made the Raiders the worst franchise in the NFL. While I agree that it wouldnt be a bad move to get rid of the the first overall pick, Moss and Porter. If Michael Vick is the return it would at best be a wash. Since Vick's best asset is speed which will be going away in the next few years, this is potentially a terrible trade.

Who do you want at #1?

If I'm getting those two receivers, I start Schaub and draft Joe Thomas.

That better not be true. I want the Packers to get in on the Moss bidding in the offseason.

If it is true, ATL would be REALLY dumb to not do that deal. The last couple of years, I thought that Schaub was a better QB than Vick anyway, so imagine this offense: Schaub, Dunn/Norwood, Moss, Porter, Lelie, White, Jenkins, Crumpler. You go from having too many #3/#4 wideouts to having probably the deepest WR corps in the league. That would be a REAL scary team next year.

That would be a wise move. Joe Thomas will be a force for 10+ years.

If you're atlanta and you end up with the number one, I think you dangle it immediately and see what you can get for it.

I can't say for sure at the moment because I don't know what they're going to do in free agency and trades. I would be surprised they don't trade at least one of the top two WR's (Moss and Porter) if not both of them. So it depends on what they do in that respect. If they keep both WR's then I would want them to pick Brady Quinn. If they get rid of one (hopefully Moss) I would like to see them take Calvin Johnson with the top pick and then see who is available at QB at the beginning of the second round. I also wouldn't mind trading the #33 overall pick (their second rounder) and Moss for a mid range first round pick depending on where the QB's go.

Robert Gallery was supposed to be the same thing and that's turned out great for the Raiders. But that's just because it's the Raiders so other teams should have nothing to worry about.

Has Favre announced his intentions for next year, yet? He said he planned on making a decision a few weeks after the season was over.

I thought he should have retired prior to last year. Now, I think he should come back for one more year. The Packers might be good enough to earn a playoff spot next year. Lots of money to spend.

I didn't know too much about Gallery, but Joe Thomas is legitimate. I think he is the safest bet in the draft.

Robert Gallery was selected with the second overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders, with a perfect 9.0 Draft Prospect Rating, the highest for any offensive lineman.

Maybe being a Raider killed his career, but he has nothing to do with Joe Thomas. We can run down a long long list of Top 10 quarterbacks who were busts, but they have nothing to do with Brady Quinn or JaMarcus Russell.

You said that Joe Thomas is "legit", well Gallery was regarded just as high or higher than Thomas is. Gallery was a "sure thing", too at one point. No draft pick, especially a offensive lineman is a sure thing.

He hasn't announced yet. If he comes back next year, I'm fairly confident that we're a playoff team next year, and that's without adding anybody new. Our defense nearly finished in the top 10 at the end of the year and right now, our only weakness on defense is at one of the safety positions. We can easily find a safety, be it through FA or the draft. We do have nearly $30 million in cap room to work with to help add some offensive skill players for Favre to work with (if he does come back).

My guess is that Favre will wait a couple more weeks to see what direction Thompson and McCarthy decide to go in. If they promise Favre that they will go after Moss or someone of that nature, he'll come back. If they don't, I'm not sure what he'll do. We didn't add much in the offseason last year and he decided to come back, so who knows?

O-Line is one of the safest positions to draft top 10, so I don't get how you can say "especially an offensive lineman." We'll just have to wait and see, but if I had to bet everything I had on one player in this draft to end up living up to his selection spot, I would take Joe Thomas.
