Bruce Miles' article, mind you:

J.D. Drew, the free-agent outfielder late of the Los Angeles Dodgers, isn’t on the Cubs’ front burner yet, but that could change as the market continues to take shape.

At the very BOTTOM on the article. So, we got one out of town source saying the Cubs have "matched" an offer for JD Drew, and then we have a LOCAL writer saying that Drew isn't even on the "front burner yet?

Do we as fans, even have a clue what is ACTUALLY going on?

I think it's been clear for awhile Fonzie is on the front burner , If Drew is cooking on the side burner too that fine by me . Please let us get both.

I turn the Fonzie burner off and stop cooking. Fonzie doesn't taste that good and is over priced, kind of like cavierior.

Then I'd heat up the Drew burner. Drew is like pot roast.

Drew and Fons are like Spaghetti and Meatballs. They go together.

I second this notion. Soriano, simply put, is almost a certain bet not to live up to his contract. I've been thinking about this for a while now, actually, and I'm becoming more and more convinced that signing Soriano is a BAD idea.

Drew, on the other hand, is likely to at least produce while he's healthy for the duration of his contract, and at a significantly higher level than Soriano. So if I were Hendry, I would put absolutely everything into signing Drew, forget about Soriano, and focus on upgrading the rotation and maybe trading for or signing another significant bat.

If I were Hendry, I give Drew a heavily front loaded five year contract with big incentives for PAs.

I really doubt they are going to activley pursue Drew though. I think he was plan B all along.

I try. Perhaps next season when I'm in Philly for the summer.

Any updates on what is going on with Drew?

Not happening with the Cubs. He's played for three big-league managers and none of the three has been fond of him. His most recent manager was in the Cubs system as a coach. I'm sure they still talk. So no, he's not coming here.

Bruce, we are going to need stats to understand what you are saying. No, I don't care about Batting Avg, HR's or even RBI's. Please help us understand what your saying with stats.

Oh God, here we go.

But if all of his managers disliked him, that is a consensus of opinion. And a consensus of opinion, while not statistically quantifiable, does mean something.

Still, that production would have been nice.

I won't be losing any sleep over this, though.

Thanks Bruce. I've heard he's a funky bird but I'm surprised they don't want him but would pay all that money for Soriano after he threw a fit about playing left.

FWIW, Bruce never said that Drew would be a bad signing because he's unpopular in the clubhouse or because he rubbed his coaches the wrong way -- so don't get into a fight over that.

Bruce simply inferred that the Cubs management would choose not sign him because of internal dislike for him.

There was never a manager or many teammates that liked Kevin Brown either (putting it nicely), yet based on his production, the demand remained for him and his reputation.

Productive players find homes, if the demand for an OF'er remained on the Cubs, Drew would still likely be looked at by the Cubs.

I don't think TT started the smartass remarks, Cheesehead brought it up out of nowhere for the sole purpose of getting a rise out of people. His response was great.

I doubt anyone has the stomach for that after 200 pages of it in the Soriano thread.
