Get it done Hendry. An outfield of Murton, Soriano, and Drew has me salivating. Cubs probably can't afford both Soriano or Drew, but it's fun to dream anyway.

JD Drew in CF gives me a boner. Can I say boner?

yep, that's fine. but you can't say "i'm [expletive]-at-the-ready for Drew"

I'm not so sure they won't have the money. I just read that entire article and the usually cynical Rogers seems to think payroll will extend beyond $120M if need be! They're talking about having 6 starters (Sounds like they're trying to take a page out of the White Sox book). I know it's dangerous for my emotional well being but I'm drinking the Kool aid now. Get it done!

So all of a sudden I'm feeling really good about this offseason.

I knew the Cubs were going to go all out in the off-season as soon as I heard Mcdunnough say "it's time to win the world series". The rumors of the $115 mil payroll just upped it abit.

It's just nice hearing reports that the Cubs are the most aggressive, they're gonna make big moves, they're not gonna get outbid, ect. These are words you don't usually hear when talking about the Cubs. It's refreshing.

What will be refreshing is if they actually sign an impact player or 2 or 3..... All the rumors and talk mean nothing to me if they don't get the deals done.

Agreed, but when was the last time the Cubs were even mentioned doing any of these things. It's nice to know they're actually involved besides what fans on this site and others are saying they should be doing. It'll be even better if/when they actually get some of these guys.

Agreed. Cub fans have short memories, I guess - we've heard this sort of talk before. The Cubs are great at coming up second or third for the big FAs - and while I certainly don't fault them for not bidding $51 million, let's not forget they came in fifth for Matsuzaka.

The talk is fine, but so far the offseason has netted Mark DeRosa. Upping the payroll by overpaying for spread-it-around guys doesn't help. When the Cubs actually come home with some real players, then you can crow about all this.

i'll believe it when i see it

Yep. That's where I am. Its where I usually am. Have your list of players you would like to see acquired and then sit back and react to what happens.

There are a lot of threads, and its fine, but there are a lot of threads that panic before some perceived bad thing happens and then there are threads like this one where people get a little worked up about a positive report in the paper. I want Drew, Soriano and good, reliable pitchers as much as the next guy, but, at this point, I'll believe it when I see it. I'm glad Drew got mentioned as being on the Cubs radar, but it means nothing unless/until he is signed.

The Cubs have been linked with alot of nice names already. Soriano, Lugo, Meche, Weston, Drew. . And not just linked. But linked as "aggressively pursuing". .

I have been saying this since Piniella joined on. All the signs point to the Tribune or someone high up (say Mcdunnough) wanting to win for the fans. Or to be more attractive to buyers. I don't care how you want to spin it. But the Cubs are going to pay big this off-season to win. Sure Hendry will still sign alot of mediocre players like Blanco. But this time the "Payroll is not going to keep us from winning". .
