That's a damn high price, but they got an elite talent. My only concern now is that there's no powder left to address CB so we're just going to have to hope Jaylon stops sucking and that Roush can get up to pace quickly.

Agree.  If we are going all in, we need to do more.  Getting at least one CB and maybe a TE or RB seems like the minimum.  Nashon Wright couldn't cost *that* much.

one thing i'll say about Poles, he does go for big swings (which as a fan, I appreciate, even if it doesn't always work out)

7th rounder I'm guessing.

A pass rush helps out the secondary though.  Jaylon doesn't have to cover as long if they're getting to the QB.

At the same time, Jaylon was a 2nd and Malik was a 4th.  So we can focus on that position in the draft.

I’ll be surprised if Nahshon is not a Bear. Who knows what the hell the deal is with him in NY. I know there are concerns about his coverage ability, but I still believe he’d be an upgrade over Jalen if he’s healthy, and I believe Simmons will allow the DBs to play up a bit. He also allows Kyler to drop back in coverage instead of rushing as much as he had.

GB game, biggest thing beyond Jaylon being cooked was Love having all day to throw his banana/can of corn bombs.  Simmons and, by domino effect, Booker and Sweat taking away his time to throw greatly effects that equation.

They can move on from Simmons after 2028 with $8 million dead cap if they so choose. I understand where you’re coming from. They won’t have first round draft capital to replace his production. But whatever. Worst case (not really; worst case is he blows his knee out on Monday); we enjoy an above average defense for 2.5 years and then go back to being where we are today (great O, bad D). Everyone points to the Rams as this cautionary tale but they’ve averaged 10 wins over the last 9 seasons with a Super Bowl win and another SB appearance. There’s always money in the banana stand.

I have no idea what that means but I love it.

Speaking of, considering the similar price, Simmons or Crosby? Crosby has been pretty mediocre so far in 2026.

Simmons will make our existing edges better.  This helps you figure out what our edges can actually do...

Big move for the Bears...

Need a CB, and maybe they'll use that 5th round pick to get Mack too.

I’d be overjoyed with Simmons, Mack, and Wright

I know Poles is GM...but this feels like a Ben Johnson trade.  Other big trades going down...feels like you're losing, 4th and long....go big or go home...

The Athletic talking about the Bears and whether this earns them a seat at the SB contender table:

My first thought is that two 1sts in the lower part of the round is a fair price for a proven DL. You have to pay for talent like that and over the past few drafts we haven't been able to turn picks into a Simmons-type player.

I agree with Wilson. Let's complete the deal with Mack and Wright. Wright is begging to come here. Get him. He knows the D.

I did not realize that Montez Sweat and Jeffrey Simmons played together at Missisippi State.

Mina Kimes called this a league changing move...says the Bears are the clear favorites to win the NFC north, and that they, along with the 49ers, are favorites to win the NFC as a whole.

I think if you add someone like Mack, the glaring DB hole is a lot less of an issue.  Yes they can absolutely stand to improve it and their depth is terrible, but if your DL is constantly disrupting plays, you don't need Jaylon Johnson's slow ass trying to cover go routes 20 times a game.
