I did not realize that Montez Sweat and Jeffrey Simmons played together at Missisippi State.

Mina Kimes called this a league changing move...says the Bears are the clear favorites to win the NFC north, and that they, along with the 49ers, are favorites to win the NFC as a whole.

I find it hard to call them clear favorites in the North considering they are currently 1.5 games out of 1st and 0-2 in the division.  I'm not saying they can't win it, they absolutely can and might be betting favorites, but they are starting from a bit of a deficit so clear favorites is a stretch in my mind (I know, semantics).  Are they now the best team in the North regardless of who ultimately wins it?  That seems reasonable.

If they want Mack then they have all the leverage with the Titans pick that’ll be in the 130’s, unless someone is willing to give up a 4.

Yeah but I think its a 2028 5th, not 2027 so that lessens the value a little.

I think, like most everyone else, she's not buying the Vikings long term.

Mack would be fun but is he even good anymore?

Unknown. A fantastic year with 17 sacks in 2023. Production down in 2024. Injury shortened season last year. I think you pick up Mack hoping he can regain some past glory.

I know Poles is GM...but this feels like a Ben Johnson trade.  Other big trades going down...feels like you're losing, 4th and long....go big or go home...

honestly this feels very Poles to me. Think of all the big swings he's made in his tenure:

He's made 2 major mid-season trades in the past, none as big as this, but still 2nd rounders on guys to try to rejuvenate teams is gambling a little bit. One didn't work at all, one has kinda worked. Made the major blockbuster trade of the 2023 first overall that basically took stole the entire Carolina franchise for a few years.

Poles is a riverboat gambler. He kinda always has been. He hasn't hit all the time but he has a history.

Maybe that's why Poles and Ben have meshed so well.

The other NFL team's fanbases are pretty united in calling it an overpay and I don't think they're wrong, but they need to realize that #1, the Titans didn't really have any reason to move Simmons in the first place and had to be motivated to do and #2, this addition makes the secondary and edge rushing better. Who else were they going to get that would impact all 3 of their defensive weaknesses with one move?

Of course it's an overpay. Any time a contending team gets a player in a trade like this it's likely a "loser" in terms of value that is exchanged. You're hoping that it pushes you over the hump that you can get a championship, but you'll be paying for it later.

I just pray we don't get a similar situation that happened with the Packers and their gambit in a very similar kind of trade.

5 more sacks than any other DT in the league since the start of last season. That's not including how good he is against the run, batted balls and pressures. Excited. We have a motivated Montez for several reasons now too.

It's an overpay in a similar vein to the Micah Parsons trade. Get the sure thing in exchange for two lottery tickets. The odds of getting a top 5 NFL talent with 2 picks in the 20s is, to me, worth the tradeoff of just getting the sure thing.

As long as he doesn't blow out a knee in the next couple weeks, obviously.
