Yes. Hoerner specifically sold out for power for a few months after his hot start with 4 homers early this year. Once he got back to not trying to lift the ball he went on a heater. It seems the past few weeks he is back to trying to do too much again. If he goes the other way with the pitch he grounded out on, he has a better chance of driving in the run. Have you also noticed his increased swing rate and higher strikeout rate?

I've complete faith they'll never win a WS with their current MO.  Sure against the Cubs' overall terrible pitching and the rest of the league' crappy pitching their GB's and bloops works.  Just can't consistently string those GB's together against quality teams with quality pitching.

I disagree. It is just something people love to say when a hitter doesn’t execute. “He struck out because he was trying to hit a homer”. I agree Nico is swinging with more authority. I don’t view that as a bad thing. Why was it more likely Chourio would swing and weakly hit a ball thru the hole at second than Nico would swing and hit a hard grounder right to the 3rd baseman. If it went thru the hole would you have said he was swinging too hard? 
Also, Nico is hitting around .330 with OPS close to .800 since the all star break. I am fine with him hitting thr ball harder.

It sucks to have an elite offense that can't do the little things like make good contact with a runner on 3rd.  Or an elite defense when your pen comes in and walks several guys and can't get strikeouts so you have to play the IF in and watch a routine grounder turn into a 2 run single.

It's like every good thing the Cubs do is neutralized by a fatal flaw.  They are a good team but no where near complete.

Arizona puts up 5 in the 10th and should now win today, putting the Cubs just 4 games up (plus the tiebreaker) over Arizona for WC3.

Brewers clinched the tiebreaker over the Cubs today so essentially 9 games up

Phillies now 0.5 ahead of the Cubs for WC1 with their win today

Padres and Nationals start soon.  If the Padres win their lead for a playoff spot will drop back to 4.5 games (albeit with the tiebreaker and with 17 games remaining)

There are no complete teams in baseball.  But there are a number of teams more complete than us IMO.  The Cubs pen for instance might be the worst unit (offense, defense, starters, bullpen) in the NL playoffs.  Situational hitting is situational hitting and admittedly luck based year to year but it does feel like theres an approach issue in those situations.

I guess, their lineup is just so punch less, if you're not the Cubs there isn't a single guy that scares you.  There isn't a single guy that teams with quality pitching wouldn't go after.
