Re- Truebloods article that he just dropped. Springer would be a fun RH bat to platoon with Happ/DH. He's not the 166 wRC+ hitter he was last season, but is holding a 122 wRC+ against LHP. Tons of playoff experience and ROS ZiPs projections are solid 115 wRC+. Keep him from the Phillies.

Cubs definitely could use a 1st baseman. They’ll have a clogged bench if Shaw and Ramirez stay put.

Happ is hitting .148 avg/ 48 wRC+ vs LHP this year, by far worst on the team.  Hit 98 wRC+ last year. Busch hitting 1110 wRC+ vs LHP.

They have Shaw hopefully coming, plus Pedro can hit RH and play LF in a pinch.   Maybe a RH corner OF/1B is ideal

My hope for today...

A controlled SP for at least 2 years

A backend bullpen arm

A RH bat that can play 1B and OF

My expectation from Hoyer today because I have little faith in him...

2 bullpen arms and maybe another rental SP or one with an option for 2027

Aldo Soto (?) saying that the Cubs might be talking about DeGrom, Eovaldi, or Gore?  Interesting...

Considering the Cubs were hot after Cabrera and Gore last TDL, it would be darkly amusing to see them actually get Gore this go-round.

Only thing is the Rangers are 2.5 back in the division and 1.5 back in the WC, and their pitching is kinda meh.  Not sure what a deal between the two would look like.

Did Hunter Greene hopes go away? I would have loved him

I think any hope was more hopium than legitimate. The Reds weren't going to trade Greene to the division.

Would you trade Happ and whomever for Trout and Detmers ?

Hypothetical

I think I would be happy with one controlled starter, a pen arm like Weaver and a right handed bat off the bench. But that is assuming at least a few pen arms come back. Guys like Palencia, Milner, Brown, & Steele are all potential pen arms. Plus if they add another starter that could push Assad and Rea to the pen.

Another SP upgrade would be great, I really hope they get that dominant late inning guy.  We saw last year how valuable they and the pen in general were in the short series.   In a 3- game series they'd likely pitch every game unless they're blowouts.  The last game in each series were bullpen games (all hands on deck).

Bregman/Swanson (and even Nico) not getting younger and Happ/Seiya likely gone this winter.  This is the year to push in.

deGrom is still really good, man... I wonder what the prospect price would be if we ate the majority of his contract

Yeah if we can't get Detmers I'd be really happy with DeGrom.

Yea I've been trying to figure that out. Owed $37m next season and a club option for $20m in 2028 (His age 40 season). His velo is still elite along with his chase/whiff rates. 170 IP last season and on pace for close to that this season. Obv still a major injury risk. But it sounds like the Rangers ownership wants to offload as many large contracts as they can. He's projected to put up close to 4 fWAR this season, so that's in range of the dollar/WAR value. If we eat the entire contract maybe the prospect cost isn't as much? Wrap him in bubble wrap next season and make sure he's ready for the playoffs (Pull a Dodgers).

Ehhh, hes 38 and owed 37 mil next season plus an option for 2028.

Also wouldn't that put them way up in that luxury tier
