Ian Happ? The Chicago outfielder?

Ian Happ?  The Chicago outfielder? The coffee roaster? The serial killer? (IYKYK).  Need more clarification.

Ehhh, hes 38 and owed 37 mil next season plus an option for 2028.

Also wouldn't that put them way up in that luxury tier

There's a ton of money coming off the books next year. $37m for DeGrom is essentially Taillon+Happ (or Suzuki).

Said another way, swapping Taillon and Happ for DeGrom and Matt Shaw is basically net neutral.

Why would the Rangers be sellers?!

There has been a lot out there that they don't think they have it this year regardless of their standings. They have a billion injuries and can use this to get out of some contracts.

Lots of smoke on that end the last few days.

Yep, Rosenthal has an article on it. They've lost 5 in a row and something like 4 of the last 5 series. Basically they just don't think their team can compete/worth buying + their ownership wants to unload as many large contracts before next years lockout.

Aldo Soto (?) saying that the Cubs might be talking about DeGrom, Eovaldi, or Gore?  Interesting...

Outfielders are flying off the board

Worth noting unless the Cubs deal Shaw they don't need a RHH bat to be an OFer.

Not looking good for us with the Mariners and the Angels.

Maybe, we get another rental like Holmes.

Angels received Jacob Cozart, a 23 year old C from Cleveland for Adell.

Not sure where that puts the Cubs on Detmers.

Probably not a good sign.

But where’s Shaw. Havent heard about him for at least a week. This wasn’t  supposed to be a big deal and it is starting to be just that.

I’m starting to be concerned with the possibility of no Detmers or no Seattle pitcher. Might have to pivot to another rental. Holmes, Mize🤷 Or maybe look to Gore.

It's looking fine. Don't panic. We have a long time to go.

The Angels are clearly selling anything that isn't welded to the floor and the Mariners are still talking Kirby and Hancock. We're fine.

Probably getting ready to speak at the national midterm convention on September 9-10.

Maybe Guasman can talk some sense into him.

This is a fully uninformed opinion but my read is that the Cubs are actually in a good place to snag Detmers.

- There was scuttle behind the scenes that the Angels had a higher price on Soriano. After that trade we're getting scuttle "no, we like Detmers more". (I think doth protest too much)
- Detmers could legitimately turn back into a pumpkin. I don't think he will, but we can't pretend he has a long track record. LAA knows this too.
- You cannot trade Soriano, Adell, and everyone you can to reboot and keep him

I feel like the two will get there.
