Nice series win and nice road trip.  The 2 games we lost kind of sucked but both by 1 run.  I'll take 5-2 against division rivals.

4-2 in 10 doesn't sound too impressive but we had a .345 xBA in the game, so going to hold off on any sort of offense concern. busch stadium is playing like a huge pitchers park and we just got hits in the wrong order. come home tomorrow and take care of business against a very beat up yankees team (with likely an exhausted pen, 12 innings yesterday and 11+ today). brewers on the west coast. by the time we have to worry about the dodgers we should have better pitchers.

Its funny how over the last 3 years I went from "crap that's a hit" to "crap thats a hit, oh wait we have PCA" to "PCA's got this" on hits like that to CF.

Does Civale have reverse splits?

Not as a starter but as a heavy Cutter/Curveball guy out of the bullpen I suspect he will as a reliever.

I actually think there's a decent chance he ends up being a savvy pickup.  He was really good for us last September and now two of his first three outings here in '26.

That’s a really refreshing win after last night . Great road trip , getting away from Pit and St Louis in the WC race . This weekend will be difficult because the bullpen is kind of beat up ( especially for tomorrow , but happy right now .

Hooefully Jed gives Craig at least 3 new toys to play with before Monday at 6:00 PM

5-2 only feels bad because it could've (should've) been 7-0

Yep - one run games. Tough losses, but 5-2 is not too shabby, but I understand because that’s how I see it too.

Hmm……if you’re Jed and you have Cabrera and Brown on the horizon, do you concentrate more on shoring up your bullpen, or go get an Ace?
I guess I was so hellbent on them getting a top SP,  I never thought of them going all in on a top available closer. Could you imagine a Webb (7th), Palencia (set up role), and a top reliever? That would help a lot.

SP rotation by mid- August could be:

Shota, Boyd, Brown, Cabrera, Rea/Assad. That’s actually not too bad with shut down closers in place. Thoughts?

Give them a blank check for Mason Miller

5-2 road trip against NL Central and Wild Card contenders where the only losses were by 1 run on Jamo HR Derby day and an extra inning 1-run loss that was one ground ball placement away from a Cub win.
