This game could be brutal, but if the Cubs win, I'd be super happy.  Well, if we can get 1 out of 3, I'd be happy.

Rea and a used bad bullpen against the Brewers in Milwaukee,  what can go wrong?

🙄🙄🙄🙄

In situations like this I find prayer doesn’t help.

Man, if ever there was a day to just send Velasquez out to wear one for 5-6 innings, today is the day.  Give Rea an extra day and hope for the best over the weekend with him and Peterson.  I suspect they're not doing that because the pen is already so wrecked with usage so I get it.  Unfortunate timing on the DH.  Would have been nice to do that Tuesday to spread things out a bit.

Yeah I kind of wonder if they expect to use Velasquez tonight.  Rea/Velasquez/Murray to get you through tonight, tomorrow you swap out the latter two for Peterson/Wilson and have a relatively rested staff, though Wilson's probably only giving you three or four on Sunday

Obviously he's incredible but with the way the offense is going, I could see a still dominant, yet relatively short (high pitch count) performance by the Miz tonight.

Not that our pitching is in a good spot to take advantage if that did happen, though.

The improvement on his fastball from last year to this one is insane. I just want our guys to at least break his 9-start without an XBH allowed streak.

Bregman getting 2 bombs off him tonight

I'd play that video of him hopping around like a wounded giraffe after that strikeout last year in the playoffs on and endless loop in the clubhouse all day.   I don't think anyone cared for that.  I know it likely won't help but it would sure motivate me if I was a player to put some extra effort in.

When he's throwing 103 on the corner with movement, all the motivation in the world won't matter. The main difference is that he learned how to throw strikes.

If I'm the Cubs I approach every at-bat with location in mind and lay off anything not in that location until I have two strikes. Their only hope is to run up his pitch count.

Thr problem with your plan is, as you said, he learned how to throw strikes. He had a CG, 15K outing without throwing 100 pitches. Waiting around for a perfect pitch will find them down 0-2 a lot. Which is not good. Basically they just have to get lucky tonight. Maybe a few seeing eye hits, maybe someone  swings the bat where the all happens to be and hits it hard. Maybe his control is off a little. He isn’t unbearable. Milwaukee lost the last game he pitched. Maybe extra time off will have him off his routine. 🤷 I would be very surprised with a win tonight, but it could happen.
