I assume this is why they swapped out Peterson for Meyers?

Is Meyers an opener? Do the Cubs  start Mo and run the risk of a lefty pitching most of the game? Maybe they should move Mo up to 2nd. At least they know he gets his first AB against a righty.

I think Myers gives them three innings best case scenario

What changed from 2024 to 2025 where MO’s left righty splits in the minors became so lopsided?

He went up a level. Better pitching and Triple-A has a good deal of those "former MLB guys who are too good for Iowa but not good enough for a rotation" types. They're far more capable of attacking LHH to their weak spots.

LHH league wide are worse against LHP (85 wRC+ in 2025) than RHH are against RHP (96 wRC+ last year).

The Cubs also have Matt Shaw who hit lefties really well. The incentive to let a rookie LHH who provides no defensive value and therefore everything comes from the bat face LHP just flat out isn't there. So there isn't much of a reason for the Cubs to find out if he can hit LHP very much right now.

965 vs righties in Iowa, 577 vs lefties in Iowa. His splits in Tennessee were 832 804. He smoked righties after moving up a level and became gage workman against lefties. That’s far below the league average wRC+ at 85, much like PCAs extreme splits and Busch to a small degree.

granted only 26 left handed hitter had a wRC+ of at least 100 vs left handed pitchers with at least 100 PAs last season. I had no idea how common these extreme splits are for even some of the best hitters.

Watching Cliff Floyd and Elise breakdown PCA swing,  they should be the hitting coaches 🤣🤣

Does make you wonder sometimes when analysts can breakdown and show the flaws in hitters and pitchers, why it takes so long for the actual coaches and players to see them and correct it.

How long til we start talking about extending Mo Baller?

He's under control for 5 more years, itll be a couple years before they consider it

Doesn’t mean they can’t give him an 8 or 9 year deal and buy out a few FA years. Not saying they will do it, but they could. Teams do it all the time.

It literally happened last Tuesday with  McGonigle getting an 8 year extension after playing 16 games.

Obviously they could, he asked when, I said itll likely be a couple years since they have 5 more years of control left.

They waited til PCA 3rd full season to extend him

Mo’s challenge earlier wasn’t great and Mendoza not challenging that play at 1st base wasn’t great.

It kind of evened itself out.
