Hot damn. I'm thrilled about landing a big FA and 5 years is decent. The AAV is a bit insane but money is coming off the books next year.

So that basically solidifies Shaw as the utility infielder, Mo as the DH and Alcantara as the 4th OF unless they have another surprise lined up.

That is how I see it. I am good with it, we can’t complain that Jed doesn’t spend money and then when he does complain he overspent. He makes the team better. Period!

Probably spells the end of Nico after this year. And kinda makes me wish they had traded Moises and not Caissie. But those are 2027 problems. Go win 100 this year.

I'm just worried about how thin the OF is. We're looking at 150+ starts each for Happ/PCA/Seiya unless they add someone. I have zero faith in Alcantara.

Shaw's fast enough he'd probably be at minimum a solid CF

I needed this after that Soldier Field horsefeathers fest. Thanks Jed.

That defense just sucks the life out of you, they suck so bad.

This is such an interesting move . With a 35 AAV , I got to believe they could have gotten a younger Bichette . Don’t get me wrong , not complaining , just wondering !

That’s where I’m at. I’m glad we’re spending. But I was hoping it would be Tucker or Bichette. Oh well, hopefully he produces and it all works out.

One word.  Unbelievable.  My #1 choice was Bregman.  My dream came true.  I'm really excited.  Go Cubs.

FWIW I assume the lineup against RHP is something like this?

Busch / Bregman / Happ

Suzuki / Mo / Hoerner

PCA / Kelly / Swanson

“Chicago will consider trading either Gold Glove-winning second baseman Nico Hoerner or third baseman Matt Shaw -- Hoerner is a free agent after this season, while Shaw likelier would bring a larger return package because of his six years of club control -- to make room for Bregman's arrival. The Cubs also could keep both in addition to Bregman.

The Cubs' fascination with Bregman had as much to do with his leadership traits as it does his pull-happy offensive approach that should fit well at Wrigley Field. As the Cubs try to remain competitive in a loaded NL this season and beyond, they'll turn to Bregman -- who is renowned for his baseball IQ, interpersonal skills and work ethic -- to help shepherd them.”

Bregman has always rubbed me the wrong way but so did Jim Edmonds, so who knows.

Yeah he always annoyed me the most of all the cheating Astros, but I loved Edmonds by the time he was done so if he hits I'll be fine

I'm a big Nico fan but if they think they can package him for something good and Shaw moves to 2B, I wouldn't complain.

Me, too.  I love Nico, and hope he stays.  But, if we can get somebody that helps a lot, like you said, I wouldn't complain.

Same, Until he popped two Homers in the same inning!
