So how exactly is Cignetti doing this? I mean, this isn't a coaching coming into a formerly great program and turning it around. Indiana is a college football doormat. Last year was the first time they've won 10 games in a season. I'm assuming they didn't drop boatloads of NIL money like Texas Tech. And yet they're a game and a half away from becoming the first FBS team since 1899 to win 16 games in a season.

They definitely are dropping boatloads of NIL money. That's the only way to get players now, really.

As it turns out, IU might have been the only team worthy of a playoff spot this year

NIL money for 3-star guys. Coaching has everything to do with their success

Talent identification and coaching obviously huge factors. Everyone is portaling and dropping bags, but IU is by far hitting on their acquisitions more than anyone else and that's a tribute to scouting and coaching

When they win it all, they will have completed the greatest story in sports since ________

Obviously bias says 16 Cubs, but maybe 99 Rams? 14 Royals would have had a case if they had finished the deed.

2015/16 Leicester City winning the EPL

I started pondering this question, but then I read the last part and realized that the 2010 Butler team and the 2025 Pacer teams would absolutely be top tier answers to this question if they finished the job and it made me sad.  That distracted me from thinking about the actual answer.

This is the correct answer. There have been underdogs in soccer who have made long Cup runs and even won it. But Leicester had to be the best team over 38 games.

Daktronics said via release on Tuesday that the scoreboard will measure 17,315 square feet, besting Auburn's 10,690 square-foot scoreboard by a comfortable margin. Purdue's Ross-Ade Stadium currently has the largest scoreboard in the Big Ten at 8,461 square feet.

I can't believe Dante Moore is returning to Oregon. The guy was probably going to be a top 5 draft pick. Now he's set to join a draft class with far more QB talent in it.

People do crazy things to avoid getting picked by the Jets or Raiders.

NIL payments make it much easier to stay in school and work on your game before jumping into the deep end of the nfl

in the long run it’s likely beneficial to come back

i don't think i really agree with that, you're surely better off in most instances accelerating actual NFL coaching & practice and starting the countdown to your 2nd NFL contract

Jared Goff makes $53M/yr, Kirk Cousins $45M/yr; we have to assume Moore's getting maybe ~$7M

The guys where everything works out accelerates the countdown to the 2nd contract. Everybody else accelerates the end of their career. He’s attempted 600 passes in college. He’s played one full season plus a partial.  Caleb had three full seasons as a starter and over 1,000 attempts.

And going first overall isn’t exactly a guarantee you get a second contract. You’re better off going to a better team in a better situation unless you are the clear cut best overall prospect at the position and luck into your team hiring a superstar HC.

I really think it makes a lot of sense, for your professional career, to stay longer in college and develop more. But getting one year closer to generational wealth (and NIL money can be big time, but its not the same as tens of millions) is a helluva incentive to leave early.

As an NFL GM, I'm definitely not gonna spend an early draft pick on a guy who only has 1 year starting though. Never repeat the Mitch Trubisky mistake.

IU controlled the whole first half, Miami gets one big run early in the second half and all of a sudden it's only a 3 point game.

Miami's defense playing pretty well though.

That run was the punch in the face that Indiana has to recover from. They haven't been punched often

Credit to Miami for sticking around and figuring things out. At halftime, it seemed like this was destined to end something like 24-7 where Indiana just controlled the game.
