Bob is likely right but a day early on the announcement. I don't hate Gallen it's losing the draft pick and IFA space on top of paying market rate for SP that sucks.

He's not. The Cubs are not signing him. I don't know what I'm supped to know here, but the Cubs aren't signing Gallen from what I've heard (just to be clear I don't have sources but know someone who knows some stuff)

Hopefully this is just a leak for leverage because if this is our big move for a TOR big horsefeathers yikes

Rumor of 5 years 110 million. I sure hope it isn't true.

It isn't. In fact, people I trust (and to be clear again, no personal sources but this person does have them) are convinced they aren't signing him at all. I feel confident this is thoroughly debunked.

Hopefully because they will sign someone else.

That much I have no information on sadly. But yeah, I do hope it's someone else they're interest in.

LMAO classic Bob.  He did get mostly vindicated on Pressly (the NTC hadn't been dealt with but the teams had agreed to a deal),so we're not totally out of the woods, but usually he's just plain wrong.

Haha it's really not like that. I think calling this a source is incredibly loose and I don't want anyone here thinking I'm anything more than the resident dork who talks way too much about seam shifted wake. Its more of a game of telephone than anything.

But I would trust this person a lot. I'm not sure if they've posted it somewhere more public which is the only reason I'm being slightly coy about it.

I guess on Gallen if this does end up going further, like most here I wouldn't be a fan.  I poated this a few weeks ago

Group 1: Cease / Cabrera / Gore

Group 2: Imai / Ryan / Valdez / Pablo Lopez

Group 3: King / Alcantara / Suarez

Group 4: Bubic / Ponce / Gallen

Broadly I'd be ecstatic for a Group 1 guy, happy with a Group 2 guy, disappointed in a Group 3 guy, and upset about a Group 4 guy. I like a lot of the Group 3 + 4 guys in isolation, but if we're punting on the position player side they just don't provide an appropriate level of oomf.

Gallen's very similar to Shota in that he's probably still a good pitcher who just had a bad season, but being an ace feels like it's fully in the past.  If he were replacing Shota I'd be down for the signing, but he's just not good enough to be our top guy this winter.

If the team signs Gallen for me to end up happy with this winter's haul they either need to add yet another SP (which necessitates a Taillon trade) or aim way higher for a bat than I had expected the team to do coming into the winter.  Both feel exceedingly unlikely.  The former because of how strong this case of FA SPs is, the latter because I don't imagine the budget can fit Gallen AND a big bat.

Hopefully, Jason and his source are right.  I don't want Zac.  I like King way more, and I want Imai, probably more than any other SP at the moment.  Cade, Imai and hopefully Wiggins could be our rotation for the next 5 years.
