I don't know guys....the team is 9-5 in September, we have the fourth best record in baseball, I've been watching videos of Happ crying in happiness and everyone else soaking themselves in champagne, but then I remembered that we went 5-8 that one time and it's like....do we even want to make the playoffs?

Only Seiya has hit a ball harder than Mo's 112.8 on the Cubs this year

Wasn't even the hardest hit ball by a Cub this game 👀

They have been amazingly consistent all year. Have they even had a 10 game stretch were they were 3-7? I feel, without looking, that they have not.

Edit: I looked it up. There was never a 10 game span where the Cubs were not at least 4-6. I think that is pretty incredible. They stayed away from a stretch of terrible play all year.

That PCA shot was about 10 seconds after my "Would be fun for Pete's 30th HR here" and it's too bad PNC park is stupid in center field.

If I can put my doom boner away for a moment, you can stop being a turd and just enjoy the moment.

I hate losing,I hate losing more than I like winning, and there is a difference-Billy Beane(Brad Pitt) Moneyball.

I know I am a grumpy old man, but this quote has always resonated with me.

That being sad, the other thing about being a grumpy old man is I have lived thru a lot more non playoff Cubs team than playoff teams. I am excited that the Cubs will probably be playing 3 home playoff games.

This is a pretty dumb double standard, but you know what....sure, go Cubs. Stay healthy for another week, maybe even do something dumb like get super hot and scare Milwaukee a little bit. Then let's go flip some coins.

Consistent is the right word.  No 4 game losing streaks all year but also just one 5 game winning streak all year and it was back in March/April.  (of course plenty of hot stretches like the current 7-1 we're in now).

Not meant to be a negative, just saying that while not a complete straight arrow upwards, its mostly been a steady season despite how much many of us (myself included) want to panic when the team isn't playing as well as we think they can.

This wasn’t at all negative. It is true. Cubs haven’t had any real down stretching and no long winning streaks. But the good play has been more often than the bad. Even when the Cubs weren’t hitting they found ways to win. At least they found ways not to go into long bad stretches.

Good find. That’s an amazing stat. We definitely bi#%ed and moaned  a lot here but every team in baseball had worse 10 game stretches than the Cubs.

Honestly baseball keeps so many records I wonder how rare never having a 10 game span at any time of the year where a team wasn’t at least 4-6, is? Even the 2016 cubs had a stretch worse than that.

Wow I get it - it’s the Pirates but the bullpen pitched 13 innings this series.  0 runs. Only 5 hits. That’s incredible.

Love how we won the World Series and almost immediately talk shows/SNL went full cringe about it for the next week.

KB walking onto the stage on Jimmy Kimmel with a Goat that refused to move comes to mind lol.

5-15.

Those were some dark days on PSD.

Before the season there is no world I would have believed that the Cubs would have had to win roughly 100 games to take the division. If you had told me they were going to 92 or 93 games I would have told you they probably won the division by at least half a dozen games.

Literally every article on this site previewing the season boiled down to “just win like 88-91 games and we get the division”, so the guys doing that has me pretty ecstatic. This season is not diminished by Milwaukee going nuclear for a month or so. Everybody predicted a 90ish win team that was going to win the weakest NL division, so they’d be playing at home in the wildcard round anyways.

Same. I thought the division would be down. Who knew the Brewers would find this many front line starters - and - hit like this.

I'm not even mad at the Brewers. Kudos on what could be a 100 win season. Winning 93ish games wins you division far more often than not, just not this year.

I understand if they don't want to do it until HFA is clinched, but I'd like to see Mo get a game or two behind the plate in this last week and a half here.

I'd also like to play Alcantara damn near every day.  Hell the team should be getting a HEAVY dose of rest here to end things so just rotate him through each OF spot every day.

Credit the pitching in the 2nd half for keeping this team afloat and kept them in games with the slumping offense.
