  1. Owen Caissie
I feel like ONKC is the surest bet on this list to be a star. I see a .240/.350/.500 type line in his future.
  2. Jefferson Rojas
SS goes a long way here - but I haven't heard much about his defense (one way or the other). If he was an elite defender everyone was talking about, I'd have him #1. There's some utility/super-utility floor here though.
  3. Jaxon Wiggins
I can't rank a potential ace lower than #3. I use ace loosely, but people stick too hard to the #1-5 ranking of pitchers. He has badass starting pitcher potential, and is showing it at AA. Good enough for me right now.
  4. Kevin Alcantara
I put Kevin and Mo in a tier, I can't really differentiate them as prospects (as different as they are), but I Alcantara's CF defense is a tie breaker for me. There's a chance he just can't hit in MLB, but he's shown enough ability to adjust that I have faith he'll figure it out to some level.
  5. Moises Ballesteros
I'm less concerned about the defense than I am about the power. Tons of ground balls worry me. I don't think there is Schwarber upside here, and betting on a .300/.350/.480 guy is a tough sell. I almost think a .260/.330/.420 weird backup catcher/1B/DH profile is what we're looking at. He's could be a 10 year MLB vet when it's said and done, but will he really be an impactful force?
  6. Jonathon Long
Ok, I'm completely enamored with the swing and, yes, I hope that (at the plate) he's everything we wished Kris Bryant to be. Terrified he's a traded for a rental and turns into a right handed version of Freddy Freeman. But more likely he's Ryan Mountcastle. Which would be great!
  7. Ethan Conrad
I never know what to do with the new toys. Please be a hit.
  8. Cristian Hernandez
Surely the power is still there somewhere? The biggest revelation for me is the SB numbers, quantity and efficiency. This probably ends up being "random MLB shortstop who plays for 5 teams over a decade" upside, but I don't know. The "puts it ALL together" upside is SO crazy; some of his HR's are just effortless tanks, if he can get to that more often. I still think there's 30-30 upside existing in a 10th percentile somewhere...
  9. Brandon Birdsell
I don't know why, but I just can't shake a John Lackey comp for BB. I shouldn't because he's his own guy. IANAS, dude just looks like a MLB starter. If we can find a prospect version of Jon Lester and introduce them, and they hit it off, then we can have our answer.
  10. Ryan Gallagher
I feel like the Cubs have had TONS of Ryan's and Gallagher's over the years, none of whom JUST QUITE made it (Sean Gallagher flew closest to the sun). Another example, like Wiggins, where I have to weight badass starter impact over the next few guys.
  11. James Triantos
Look, Triantos at 11 is a testament to how deep this system really still is. Health willing, dude will play MLB. I think the hit/power combo ends up being so Nico, but probably more of a utility defensive profile. Definite super-utility potential. If the Cubs sucked right now, we'd be watching him instead of Brujan.
  12. Pedro Ramirez
Hey, there's the off chance he's, um, a poor man's James Triantos. That profile, given the chance and initial success to build a runway, can stick around MLB for a while.
  13. Christian Franklin
Dude's gonna play in the majors for 10 years, I just know it. Nobody will remember he was on their favorite team.
  14. Will Sanders
    Please be another Birdsell story.
  15. Ronny Cruz
Please be better than Christian Hernandez?!
  16. Fernando Cruz
Please be better than Christian Hernandez?!
  17. Ivan Brethowr
I wanted to rank him higher because I'm a dreamer, but I have to temper my expectaions.
  18. Cole Mathis
Purely based on hope for a slugger.
  19. Nazier Mule
I'm cool with an Adzolay career arc (I know that hurt at the end, but come on, I wish I had an Adzolay career).
  20. Juan Tomas
    Yay, shiny new prospect!

I tried to be a little unconventional, but also to prioritize something like "most likely big league career", so this is what I came up with. I do feel like I missed some names, but nothing I went crazy about.

  1. Owen Caissie
Caissie's whiff reduction has been going on long enough that there is a real reason to believe he's achieved progress. Defensively he's continued to be a corner OF'er. I believe his can (eventually) keep his K% in line enough to get to his power
  2. Jefferson Rojas
Likely the Cubs #1 prospect post TDL, the only thing keeping him at #2 for me is that he has yet to be promoted and Caissie's progress, neither are his fault
  3. Jaxon Wiggins
Progress with command and control have vaulted Wiggins up boards. If he can just continue to work on the breaking stuff there is a potential #2 or better SP here
  4. Moises Ballesteros
Defensive questions will always haunt Ballesteros until someone plays him at the MLB level behind the plate. With those still there, this feels like a cautious home for the floor.
  5. Kevin Alcantara
Turning it on recently, his season hasn't been dreadful, but his overall data on not-fastballs can't be overcome with a few hot weeks. Continued progress there is needed but not impossible. Still unicorn defensively.
  6. Jonathon Long
Giving the nod to Long over Conrad because of proximity to the MLB and the slight chance he can moonlight at 3b. Batted ball data continues to be great, but 1b/DH defensive profile limits upside.
  7. Ethan Conrad
Really like this pick in the draft. Can stick at CF, bat profiles enough to be good in the corners. Get healthy and see you in 2026.
  8. Cristian Hernandez
Hernandez has settled into being a nice prospect but one who only flashes the upside. Hopefully as he grows into the body the power can follow.
  9. Brandon Birdsell
Injuries have sucked the life out of the year, but I still like him as a #4 if he can get right.
  10. James Triantos
He's fallen due to concerns with his batted ball data. Think there's an MLB role for him, but it's likely as a nice compliment at four or five positions than ever being the guy at one.
  11. Pedro Ramirez
Peaks and valleys for the infielder. When he's going well and can show power, you can dream on him being a starter, and other times, the power limits him enough to where you wonder if he's more than a bench bat.
  12. Will Sanders
Kitchen sink SP who is in Triple-A. I think he reminds me of Colin Rea (not in a bad way). He will make an MLB start at some point with a chance to stick as a back-end type.
  13. Christian Franklin
Good MLB 4th OF'ers have value and Franklin has that. Wouldn't be surprised to see him in a trade to an OF needy team, but could fill a roll in Chicago, too, if Alcantara is moved.
  14. Ryan Gallagher
Thing holding him back is comp level. 2025 has gone as well as it could for him, but with promotion freeze you can't quite say for sure he's not just another Sam Armstrong-type pop-up. I think he's better than that, but I have to see it to confirm. Could rise 4-5 spots if he proves it.
  15. Josiah Hartshorn
My favorite pick from the draft, I really like the upside here. Personality and mentality coupled with upside.
  16. Juan Cabada
Dude is crushing the DSL and has big upside. Gave him a bump. Keep it up.
  17. Cole Mathis
What a bummer year. I'll give him the bump over Kepley simply because I think he was a 2nd round pick in a better draft, and I'm not sure what's real and what's injury. By the end of the year I might flip them.
  18. Kane Kepley
If he hits 10+ home runs at the MLB level he's much higher than this, but his Cape performance showed he has some to go in power dept. Defense, speed, and bat to ball skills make him a very likely (in prospect world) to make an MLB roster but his upside is hard to see. I could look real dumb for having him this low if he turns into a Steve Kwan-lite.
  19. Eli Lovich
Classic tweener of too good for ACL, too underdeveloped physically for Myrtle. Upside play, get in the gym and add some to the frame.
  20. Ronny Cruz
Copy and past from above on Lovich. Swing improvements are noticeable.

Post-draft, pre-TDL system is fun right now, but likely to lose anywhere between three and six from this list by the 31st depending on who the Cubs acquire. I suspect they'll get at least one controlled player which will sap the majority from this list. When that happens, expect to see names like Juan Tomas, Nazier Mule, Ivan Brethowr, Carter Trice, Alex Lumpuoy, and Kaleb Wing start to sneak themselves into spots vacated.
