PCA before the all-star break: 174 PA, 63 wRC+, 0.6 fWAR

PCA since the all-star break: 129 PA, 119 wRC+, 1.3 fWAR

Before - 25.9% K, 4.6% BB, 24.8% hard hit rate

After - 16.3% K. 7.0% BB, 45.9% hard hit rate

---

For reference, the league average numbers are  22.4% K, 8.2% BB, 38.7% HHR

The dramatic improvement, in all facets, is so wild.

Yeah, this doesn't just feel like a hot streak.  He's obviously not going to OPS 1.500 or whatever he has over the last week but between the approach and how many hard hit balls we've seen, it looks sustainable to a degree.

320/375/550 over his last 30 games

Yep, and from someone who probably adds more value outside of his slash line than any other offensive player in baseball.

New fun fact, the Cubs scored 14 runs today despite only having 3 extra base hits.  2 doubles and a home run.  Their other 13 hits were all singles.

Even more, what is the record for runs scored in a series where you are swept?

I went off Googling and apparently the most runs scored in a 3 game series is 78 runs between Brooklyn and the Pirates in 1950. The series ended 2-1 to Brooklyn.

Now we just played a 3 game series where the Cubs swept the series and 64 runs were scored. So if the “you” in your post means one of the teams and not the Cubs specifically, the most runs scored combined in a series where one of the team is swept could be the series that was just played.

Crazy to me that PCA is playing at 3 fwar per 162 while sporting an 81 wRC+ prior to this game. Is he seriously around a 5 fWAR player if he's just a league average bat?

I've wanted a Trea Turner type speed demon with power for so freaking long and except for that good half season from Corey Patterson we've never had one.  My brain is unable to accept that this looks like it's happening.

With elite defense. And he's doing it with a BABIP that isn't egregiously high. Feels somewhat sustainable. He's in a groove.

Yes his floor is stupid-high, and we are seeing that he ceiling is as well.

From a WAR standpoint he has the highest ceiling in the organization pretty easily.

lol PCA has the 8th highest SB total for a Cub this century. Juan Pierre, Eric Young x2, Hoerner last year, Patterson, Campana, Theriot.

Yeah with his defense and baseunning the offensive bar is similar to where it is for a good defensive catcher.

- 2 WAR for a truly average player over 600 PAs

- 2.5 runs (.25 WAR) for being a CF

- Coming into today he's at 5.4 runs of baserunning value in just under 300 PAs, so call him a +10 baserunner

- He's been a +10 defender by DRS (guys watching video) and +9 by Statcast.  So he's been playing like a +20 defender.  My personal opinion is that except in the most extreme of examples (e.g. Andrelton Simmons or Andruw Jones) anything beyond +15 isn't all that repeatable.  So let's call him a +15 guy but note if someone's going to pass that hallowed threshold he'd be among the most likely

So that puts him at like 4.7-4.8 WAR as a league average hitter.  Let's knock it down to 4.5 to settle at a nice round number while being conservative?

41 runs scored this series that’s awesome

Especially with those three pitchers lined up.

Quick rundown, basically the Pirates were ahead by a TD and a FG, but the Cubs came back to two late TDs.

Lol, checked out when it was 10-3. Just looked for the final expecting to see like 14-4.

You were right about one team scoring 14

He’s been hitting the ball hard for the last 2 months. The first 6 weeks he was hitting them at people. He’s been locked in for awhile.

Team record apparently is 48, but set back in the 1890s.  We did score 47 runs in a 3 game series against the Pirates back in 2019.  17-8, 14-1 and 16-6.  I definitely remember that one and assumed it was the record.

Also in 1998 the Cubs and Brewers had a series where both teams scored double digits in all 3 games.  Didnt set any scoring records but I always thought that was a fun factoid as I believe its still the only time that's happened.  13-11 Brewers on Friday, 15-12 Cubs on Saturday and 11-10 Cubs on Sunday.  This is also the series that Sammy hit numbers 60, 61 and 62

Ex wife and I were at the 61 and 62 game. Grace won it. That was a great year to be a fan.

I was at the game before that when he hit number 60.  Came back from a huge deficit (8-2 maybe?) to win. Fun game but would have rather been at 61 and 62 😁

I'm a bit surprised that there wasn't a Rockies home series in the late 90's where each team scored double digits in every game.
