Seems like a logical deal for both sides. Bellinger can hit FA next year if he has another good year and the Cubs aren’t handing out a huge deal based off one bounce back season.

Ok the Cubs replaced Stroman with Imanaga and Bellinger with Bellinger. Now just have to hope the handful of bullpen additions, Busch, prospects and Counsel can improve the Cubs this season. Definitely a good deal of depth and flexibility on the roster.

As for the deal, happy they got it done. Kind of wish we had 2 years of security with the deal, but get why that wouldn’t have been appealing enough for Belli and why it’s not the worst thing for the Cubs to have options after another year of guys like PCA, Busch and others.

Yes!

Solid deal for both sides, but I'll give this to the Cubs.  Even 5/120 would have been solid.  Bellinger got opt outs every offseason which is a win for him.  We get a guy who will still be very motivated to perform.

Best thing about the options is that it gives us time to see what we have in PCA and Busch. If both those guys are ready and Cody has a good year, he will undoubtedly opt out… and we can be “ok” with that.

Gives Cubs the ability to give PCA some more time in AAA if needed, and more depth in case Busch struggles or is hurt.  Mervis could make the team as a DH vs RHP, and probably Morel/Canario/Gomes at DH with Madrigal at 3B and Wisdom/Morel at 1B vs LHP.

Cody is very likely opting out if he has a good year.  He'll make 30m in 2025 but he's not going to leave a big contract on the table next winter for an extra 5-7m.

Solid contract. Will essentially be a one year deal barring injury or tanking. Good job on waiting that one out.

Bad news is that we get to have this same offseason next one. With Hendricks, Bellinger, Smyly, Gomes, Bote, and some dead money coming off, the Cubs will once again have a lot of money under the LT, tons of prospects and will be labeled as the team to watch.

The Cubs have a loaded lineup, rotation, bullpen, and farm system.  This team is built for the long-run.  Jed has done an incredible job

They don't stand out as a powerhouse team but there's no weakness anywhere and tons of solid depth at every position besides maybe 2nd catcher.  They have to be the favorite to win the division at this point.

Okay Jed's off-season looks quite good now. Each signing has high potential with minimal downside. Let's go win the horsefeathers division!

Better offseason than last year I think.

It's really hard to have a disastrous short-term contract. Assuming there's nothing crazy hidden in the terms, Jed did well here. I'm happy to have Bellinger back at this price.

Anyone got our total salary numbers yet?

30/30/20 with an opt out after each of the first two years.

Is this it for Mervis? I can’t see how they keep him with Belli back this year and Busch looking like the future.

This is beyond it for Mervis. The Dom Smith deal was it for Mervis.

Dom Smith is nothing for anybody. If he's not mashing he stands in nobody's way.

Lol 3/80. Unreal deal. Would have preferred Chapman a little but belli is pretty clearly a Fowler 2.0 situation. Maybe we can go a couple days without the endless complaining?

Makes you wonder if Boras is going to "lose" on his other three players as well. Seems like a terrible mis-read of the market

Dare I say Cubs could do a similar deal with Montgomery or Chapman?

I'm greedy for short term deals right now for 2024

I don’t think it was so much a misread, I don’t think he could have gotten more for Bellinger if he had signed in, say, December. Boras was hoping the market would change or develop and there was little downside to waiting. It did not develop and so here we are.

No, now we get to complain about the people who were complaining about Jed.
