Dude… if you are reasonable and logical in your thought process, you’re gonna get called a billionaire boot licker and a MAGA supporter.

Be careful!

I think you dropped this

You must be a product of private schooling.

Ain't no way in hades would anyone take $30 million away from the Chicago Public School System. And to defend private industry to skim from the children is reprehensible

That seems unnecessarily and aggressively dismissive. And disingenuous. The amount of business and therefore tax revenue the Cubs bring to the city certainly exceeds this amount. I don't see how you can represent this as taking away from the schools unless there's a detail I missed.

Also, this is politically divisive. I thought we were trying to limit that. You set out food for the troll.

Sounds akin to donating to a charity then expecting the charity to do work around your house

Cody is back, do we have a timeline for when he's going to get into games? I'm guessing a week or two?

It will be interesting to see if the protracted negotiations have any effect on his early production. There are lots of variables at work here though.

They as well as I share a deep fondness for the Chicago Cubs owner, Tom Ricketts. And I'm sure we both hope Tom can muster one more A list free agent before the 2024 season begins.

I'm not only hoping the Cubs win their division but hopefully win enough to have home field advantage. It's been 7 years since the Cubs have won a playoff game. It's time for that trend to vanish.

I think you will see Cody in a game sometime later next week. But I doubt the late start will be an issue for him. I don’t think hitters are as much a concern as pitchers. Especially not 10 days late.

I am pretty sure they are done spending and most definitely will not go after any of the 3 big tickets Boras has left. All would take them over $257M. What would be a nice surprise would be if late in the spring they decided Morel can handle 3rd so they went and sign JDM for maybe $15M. Put them over the $237 layer but comfortably under the $257M. But I doubt that happens. For 1 thing, I am not sure they will come to the conclusion Morel can handle 2rd in time for that move. And then there is the money.

Cody's deal is very interesting, if he plays well, does he automatically opt out for 25? Or if the Cubs come close to going all the way in 24, is there a chance he returns for another 30mil? Kind of a try and finish the job outlook? I mean 30 mil is nothing to sneeze at. He could probably end up with the same long term deal at age 30 as age 29?

Could they do deferral, Dodger style but on a small scheme? Not sure how that counts towards LT?

But he can get hurt too. I think if he comes close to 23’ numbers he walks next year. If he could get an7/$182M or something like that, it is much better than risking injury or poor play the following year. I don’t see Bellinger betting $182M so that he could get one more year at $30M.

I doubt that would work here.

I dont disagree, just thinking athletes by nature appear to be competitive about everything and possibly would be willing to bet on themselves. Also ?keep in mind Dansby has his ear, lol

Myself, I'd generally take the bird in hand. But an athlete?

I think the only way he takes one more year is if he does poorly in 2024. Maybe OPS+ of a little over 100, maybe 105. And maybe he gets hurt and misses some time and only has 400AB. If he drops to a guy who is only worth $20M a year or less and he is only expecting to see something like 4/$78M, then my guess is he would stay. But then we don’t really want him. If he plays well enough to get the 5 to 7 year(or more) offers at annual pay of $25M or more, IMO he is done.
