Defector's attempt to break this horsefeathers down had me rolling:

https://defector.com/this-is-about-as-wrong-as-15-seconds-of-basketball-can-go

Quote

On Tuesday night, Bulls fans were given a special challenge: What if the wild emotional swings that are inherent to sports fandom were compressed and forced upon you in the time it takes to fill a pitcher of water? Let me set the scene: The Bulls are trailing the Knicks 36-27 with 11:43 left to play in the second quarter. (Great. Great horsefeathers job, guys.) Andre Drummond pokes the ball away from Bojan Bogdanović at the three-point line, at which time Torrey Craig grabs the loose ball and starts a fast break. (Let's horsefeathers go!) Drummond and Coby White run out with Craig, and the Bulls suddenly find themselves with a 3-on-0 advantage. (Let's horsefeathers go!) Instead of taking the easy dunk or dropping the ball off to either of his teammates, Craig decides to throw the ball off the backboard. (Let's... uh... let's horsefeathers go?) As he leaps to catch the self alley-oop, Drummond, thinking he's meant to be the star of this spectacle, also leaps to try and catch the ball for a dunk. (Great. Great horsefeathers job, guys.) Drummond crashes into Craig in mid-air, the ball briefly rests in Craig's hands before caroming off the rim, Drummond gets back on defense and immediately rolls his ankle, eventually leaving the court in a wheelchair. (Great. Great horsefeathers job, guys.)

Anyone else feel like this play-in for Bulls is an exercise in futility?  Honestly I rather they lose and get to the make-excuses for-rationalizing-rolling it back-offseason.

Thought that was obvious and has been obvious for 2 years. I didn’t even think about the fact that they are playing this game until like 2pm today because I’m so far from caring about the pointlessness of this franchise.

They're not winning tomorrow anyway, so whether they win tonight is of little consequence. At this point we might have to just hope the lottery gods step in like with Derrick Rose and maybe this time the player will have functioning knees.

Have not watched a single game this season.

I still don't understand how this whole play-in things works and I contend that it is dumb even though I have no idea what it is.

But this has been an entertaining game.

I had to look it up to figure it out. It's pretty convoluted but after today it's just regular old 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7

That can't be true because they said the winner plays Miami Friday night and Miami is #8.  So it's like a double play-in for the 8 seed or something?

Yeah, I guess the lower seed game (9/10?) has to win twice

Convoluted

Yeah. 7 plays 8, winner gets the 7 seed. The loser then plays the winner of 9/10, with the winner getting the 8 seed.

So basically the 7 and 8 regular season seeds have 2 chances to win 1 game, with at least the second game guaranteed to be at home.

The 9 and 10 regular season seeds have to win 2 straight games, with the last one guaranteed to be on the road.

I hate the play in so much. It is as stupid of an idea as the in season tournament.

I agree. It’s so unbelievably stupid to me. And it totally plays right into Reinsdorf’s hands. They can be the 10th best team in the worse conference and still have the fans feeling like they accomplished something because they played in a play-in game.

in fact when Reinsdorf dies they should rename it the Jerry Reinsdorf Memorial Tournament because this horsefeathers was made with owners like him in mind

Also since the Bulls have taken an 18 point lead near the end of the 3rd, this news may be relevant for Friday:

The play in has been an amazing idea for the league.  It has less to do with the play in games itself than the impact on the regular season.

Now there is a race for the 6 seed that was never there before.  There is a difference between 7 and 8.  And then there are teams at 9/10 who haven't packed it in and sometimes a 11th seed that is chasing a play in spot.  With all those extra teams playing for something, there is a huge difference in the competition level the last couple weeks of the season.

Except this year's draft suuuuuuuuuuuuucks. The fact that Clingan is seen as a possible top 3 pick in some circles should tell us something about the depth and quality of talent available this year.

Yeah, I think the value in this draft is actually later. Top of the draft is weak, but the middle is normal. Of course, the Bulls will probably draft another athlete who can't shoot so it won't matter.

I can't wait to force myself to watch snippets of the first round and get nothing out of it except hating the Celtics some more.

Nice to see Coby emerging as a real thing though.
