Something I never noticed before: bedard uses an incredibly long stick for someone his size.  Obviously he knows how to handle it, and it gives him a bit of extra reach and explains the zip on his snapper.

i liked pat foley for a long time, but it will be nice having an announcer who doesn't always seem drunk

Chris Vosters took over a year ago. He sucks.

I considered starting a betting thread for my fellow degenerates.

Via FD, I'm taking Bedard to win the Calder (-125). There are a few other Bedard specific bets, of which I'm taking the over on goals (31.5 @ -113) and the over on points (68.5 @ -113), as well as Bedard to record one hat trick (+105) on the season.

My personal prediction for Bedard is 81 points. Health willing, of course.

Pretty solid bets, I believe he's going to have quite a few helpers, appears to have good vision and is good passer.  Teams are going to focus on him not hitting the back of the net and he's smart enough to take advantage.

Gotta miss the live version of game 1 since I have Samantha Fish tickets for tonight. Not expecting huge leaps this year, but I'm looking forward to watching all of the games and see them build the next dynasty.

I expect he'll be paired with Taylor Hall for as long as they can keep the two together. They was an incredibly shrewd move by KD. It's weird to think that Hall has become an underrated presence in any lineup, but he has. Injuries and bad luck have played a pretty big role in his career, but at his very best and healthiest he's been a 90+ point player. He was once the prototypical power forward for the league. Speed, scoring ability, and great along the boards. The fans are gonna love Hall.

I'm working until 10:30 tonight, so I'll miss the game as well. But, I will be at the home opener, so I'll at least get to see Bedard's first game at the UC.

We need to bring back the betting thread from the old board. I will start a new one

For those that watched the preseason how did Bedard look?  I saw bits and pieces.  Looked like his playmaking, face offs and defense were all looking good and the lack of goals (outside of the empty netter) was more a function of bad luck than any issues with his play.

Bedard is already the best Hawks player on the ice every time he touches it. He's already the focus of opposing defenses, so much that he's had several assists to wide open players due to the entire opposing team focusing on him.

Unfortunately, other than Bedard and Taylor Hall, it's a bad roster and will probably finish bottom 5 in the NHL overall.

That's fine, I expect them to suck.  The FO already made it clear that they would not speed up the rebuild because of Bedard.  I don't agree with that strategy but for now its fine.  This year will be the rare form of sucking where its actually fun.

I thought he looked even better than advertised and my estimation of him shot up.

I still think he's a half step below Crosby as a prospect but I think he's better offensively than McDavid was at this age, and McDavid was ppg as a rookie. If bedard plays 80 games this year, 100 points are on the table.

Saw him take plenty of wicked shots in preseason. The goals will be there.

Lost in all of the Bedard talk, Kevin Korchinski made the opening night roster. I’m excited to see what he looks like.

It’s really weird that people tried to make that a story, that he made the team. He was penciled into the opening night roster all summer long. The question is whether or not he stays.

It’s an accomplishment. The kid is only 19.

While I fully expect this team to stink, I have to wonder what they could possibly do at the trade deadline. Hall could be an obvious trade target for a contender, but will they get rid of Bedard’s partner? Andreas Athanasiou might wind up putting up decent numbers playing with Reichel, but the contract they gave him is untradeable.

a couple other guys might net them a late round pick, but I think the deadline is gonna be a dud by and large.

the one caveat is if Reichel does thrive and they feel he can slot into Bedard’s line.

Sure it’s an accomplishment, but it was pretty much determined a long time ago that he was making the roster. Beat writers have talked since before the draft about the strategy of burning his entry level contract. He can’t go to Rockford, so unless they wanted to send him back to WHL they were keeping him to start. They don’t care about wins and are making this a developmental year, and it’s fairly common for guys to make the nhl roster within one season after they are top 10 picks.

it’ll be noteworthy if he stays up for 10 games.

The amount of attention Bedard draws on the ice is crazy.  He got it on the point at even strength and three guys started moving toward him. And they had a guy completely dedicated to shadowing him on the PK

How much of that is bedards talent and how much is lack of respect for anyone else on the ice for the Blackhawks?  I just started watching.

It's Bedard. He looks legit AF out there.  That wrister that Jarry barely caught a piece of was nasty.

Well, 1 for 2 tonight on bets. I had a good feeling that Bedard’s first point would be a 2nd period assist. Unfortunately, the only prop bet for a 2nd period assist required it to be on the man advantage, so I took it.
