The Blackhawks played their first preseason game last night and got 2 goals, both assisted by Bedard. They may not be good this year, but they may be the Chicago team most worth watching this year.

That's a low horsefeathers bar.

So Bedard is pretty good huh

Think he's the real deal, some of the other youngsters were impressive as well including Marcel Marcel.  Granted it's preseason and the Blues were short-handed nevertheless, Bedard is good.

Ive never wanted anything more than having Marcel Marcel become a thing.

Fortunately, this isn't a Trubisky or Fields situation, no major, basically, incorrect-able flaws.

B'Hawks are actually quite good at developing point scorers....not like the Bears

Bedard is coming into the league as a better player than Kane was at the same age.

Marcel Marcel. A young boy's strange erotic journey from Milan to Minsk.

he's kind of reminding me of KB in that everything about him seems perfect. this is going to be fun

Hope Bedard lasts longer than KB.

Yeah. That's not surprising. Kane was considered a weak-ish no. 1.  Not terrible by 10A standards, but not on Bedard's level as a prospect.

Few are. Bedard is Crosby with Matthews ability to find the twine.

Nobody would consider Kane a "weak-ish" 1st overall if he were drafted today. In 2007, the NHL was just beginning its transition to a game where speed and skill would dominate. There were a lot of fans, myself included, who valued JVR more at the time because of his size. Looking back today, that seems ridiculous because the skill gap was so wide between the two.

It might be legit the best shot I've ever seen from a prospect/rookie.

If you're asking me about prospects I've seen in my lifetime (I can remember about to maybe 1990ish, so post-Lemiux), I wanna place him third behind Crosby and McDavid.  And if someone wanted to put him tied with McDavid, I wouldn't argue too hard.

Still wouldn't quite put him on Crosby, who I think is the *actual* definition of "generational," not the watered-down version sports fans have been using.  Just as elite offensively as any of these guys *and* came into the league an already polished defensive player.

still blows my mind that we lucked into bedard despite not deserving it at all

The draft was 100% rigged. I'm going to love watching Bedard in Chicago, but we really should not have been awarded the right to draft him.

Don't know if I agree with it being rigged and quite frankly I don't care.

I'm down for sports conspiracies.  Give me cold envelope Ewing tinfoil all day.  Jordan's gambling suspension.

But there's literally no way the NHL draft lottery was rigged last year.

The idea is "Well the NHL would want a big star in a major market, there's so much money at stake."  That's kinda true, but the NHL is the least national-revenue reliant of any major sport.  The NFL operates like a single entity where 32 owners get rich off the national tv contracts.  The NHL is much more of 32 separate businesses making local revenue and cooperating with each other.  No one is getting rich off of Bedard in Chicago except for the owners of the Chicago Blackhawks..  None of the other owners in the lottery have any incentive to give up their chance to get rich off Bedard for a minor uptick in the national revenue stream.

The other issue is there's no plausible mechanism by which it could be rigged.  You can watch the video of the ping-pong balls being drawn in a room that includes independent auditors, representatives of every team, and independent journalists.  Either more than a dozen people who have nothing to gain were in on the conspiracy, or there was some kind of Ocean's 11-level zany shenanigans with, I don't even know how they would do it?  I've seen some people talk about weighted balls, but 1) they would visibly behave differently on camera and 2) The order they come out matters, so the same four balls that gave it to Chicago could have easily given it to someone else if they came out in a different order.
