I believe that in general, the talent disparity in the NFL is not that large with the exception of QB, and that the Bears have enough talent to be close to .500 if they had a better QB and coaches. Poles sat on his hands, which was stupid, and then didn't target the right players in FA, but individually I don't think they are as bad as they look as a team. You simply cannot have guys blocking their own players in week 1 of the season, etc.

If he was the answer, he'd be starting. The coaches aren't that dumb.

Totally agree.

Football coaches are pretty dumb people. They are gym teachers at heart who pick their favorites early and stick with them longer than they should while holding grudges against others based on random stuff. You probably can’t be a successful nfl head coach and a moron, but you can stick around the league and the sport in general just through relationships.

"exponentially improbable" then

the point being, Peterman is likely the biggest moonshot of competent QB play that the Bears have

It was literally just a troll joke off a hypothetical that is nearly as improbable, my man

A competent GM and head can do it in one season. Poles cannot. In part because he apparently doesn’t want to improve.

It was a conscience effort on his part to not utilize all the resources at his disposal.  As I said either he is dumb as a box of rocks or he knew the roster was at least one more draft away and wanted to see if Fields worked out.  Meaning , if Fields bombed he'd have the draft position to pick his QB and add another high impact players.

I don't think I agree, I don't think the goal is .500. You have to have top talent at some position to be considered a contender, and the gap between blue-chip talent and rank-and-fil nfl players is noticeable. You could look at nearly every position and find a game-changing talent, someone who's play every week can change the outcome of the game

Donald, Bosa, McCaffery, Henry, Jefferson, Warner, and Kelce for instance, are not QB's. Obviously, when paired with a blue-chip QB they are far more likely to be contenders, you still need the best talent outside of the QB position

but that shouldn't excuse him from taking top talent before JF fails, either. Nothing should stop Poles from building a solid team outside of the QB position

it's not the goal, but with competent coaching, it's not hard either. For example, Lovie Smith's Bears.

that kind of proves what I'm saying, Lovie had a HOF LB and (should be HOF) KR, not to mention Tommie Harris and Mike Brown who were maybe a 1/2 step below blue-chip

Not to mention a top 10 O-Line, at least in 2005-06

Tillman and Briggs were both top 10 at their position too

Yup and I would consider Brown a blue chipper too, he just couldn't stay healthy

Many of those resources at his disposal were because he tanked away 2022 so hard (whether intentional or not)

Hey, we need one more year cuz year one we sailed it in so hard the first year!

Just sucks. Was hoping to be wrong and proven a dummy, but not looking great!

Guys, there's too much shut to wade through when I only want answers to two things:

Is sulley still alive after this last weekend?

And what kind of porn was the dude that got fired watching?

Sulley was melting down on Monday

I think there's a critical mass as a football team where enough bad players on the field make it impossible for any good players to do their job., and the Bears are definitely at that. So it's possible that some random dudes that look terrible are actually good, like maybe some of the secondary or the linebackers or tight ends or something.

But I'm not really worried about Peterman or Bagent coming in and winning games.  Bagent getting some starts would be hilarious and fun, and I know there's been weirder things happening in sports like Kurt Warner or Tom Brady, but what I saw from him in the pre-season against fourth-string defenses will get eaten alive on a real sunday.

Man, I miss Mike Brown so much. I wish he could have been able to stay healthy. He was HOF caliber. And I think it's criminal that Peanut isn't in yet. Hester too.

I'm pretty sure Sulley liked one of my tweets, so he's probably alive.
