i think we should start a long list of potential HC candidates. as much of a dumpster fire as this is, in a vacuum you should be able to sell an offensive QB/development guru looking for their first top job on chicago with the assets in the pipeline. i don't want anyone who hasn't called plays before or hasn't had the top job (if they want to give up play calling duties that's fine) and no defensive guys ffs. kinda spitballing here:

- eric bienemy OC for the commanders

- kalen deboer - HC for the washington huskies

- ryan grubbs - OC for the washington huskies

- ben johnson - OC for the lions

- kellen moore - OC for the chargers

- shane waldron - OC for the seahawks

- harbaugh

- lincoln riley?!

I think you have to get rid of Getsy. Probably not going to happen this week or it would have already. So maybe at the mini bye after Washington. You gotta see if someone can salvage something. You can't do nothing and just try to avoid 0-17. You have to see if maybe if you have something with Janocko. You have to see if anything in Fields is salvageable. I have heard rumors that the team loves Flus, but nobody on offense thinks Getsy knows what he's doing.

I have the pleasure of attending the game vs Denver on Sunday. The only thing to look forward to is if this game heads south quickly how bad the crowd will get to everyone involved. I am probably considering dumping my tickets after this season. 13th season, 1 playoff home game(Double Doink) . I am done, especially if they move to AH, word on the street is non PSL ticket holders will be screwed anyway.

If by some miracle he became available, I would literally give Mike McDaniel a blank check and would seriously consider giving  the Dolphins the Carolina pick for the right to do so.

Should they be? Absolutely. Will they be? I have supreme doubts. The Bears will continue to do their old timey Bears tradition nonsense and let them finish the year before moving on.

My only argument would be if Warren/ownership believes that the Bears are failing Fields (and it appears like they are based on his regression), they would consider an in-season firing.  Like I mentioned yesterday, we are Year 3 on Fields, this is when you start to consider year 5 option and QB plan moving forward, its not quite time to commit yet but we're getting there and we still have no idea what we have in Fields.  I'm sure some will argue that we do know what we have, a bad QB, but imo there has been enough flashes that I cant fully convince myself.  Im 99% there.  But if there's even a 1% chance there is a good QB in there and Getsy and Eberflus are failing them, we need to make a change quickly to salvage this season for Fields.  I'm not sure if anyone they can bring in Week 4 of a season is going to make an impact on his season trajectory, but it seems clear the current staff is not going to bring that out of him.

I was thinking about this yesterday, and based on those names, it's Ben Johnson or bust for me. I want to like Bienemy, but I know teams have been pretty taken back by his brashness and past history of misconduct. After the Alan Williams stuff, that's going to be a tough sell. I don't like those college guys, including Harbaugh. Lincoln Riley might be worthwhile if you think Caleb Williams will otherwise refuse to play in Chicago with their history of what they have done to QBs.

i'll throw in brian johnson oc for the eagles and jim bob cooter oc for the colts as guys that seem to have the trajectory we should be looking for as well

i like the huskies guys because that offense is absolutely unstoppable and has tons of explosive plays in it, the play design there reminds me of early mcvay. saban tried to hire their OC and washington gave him a huge raise to retain him.

Brian Johnson only has 1 year as an OC/playcaller. And he's running someone else's playbook. Cooter has similar off-field past as Bienemy.

And I'm weary of college coaches in general. There's not a ton of success making that transition from college to the pro game.

To be fair, from what I can tell, all of Bienemy's legal issues happened in his college years or early NFL years. He's also the most interviewed coach of all time, who has never received a HC job. There's something teams don't like about him as a person/leader. It was also unclear how much of the KC offense was him vs. Andy Reid. And it would be a tough sell to the fans to go to another Reid disciple at HC. That being said, Bienemy is getting a chance to run his own offense this year. Had 2 good games to start in Washington, but they put up just 3 yesterday and their QB had 4 INTs. Jury is still out on him.

Ben Johnson is the hottest name on that list, I think.

Tankathon has the Bears with #1 and #4 picks, taking Caleb WIlliams and Marvin Harrison, Jr. That'd be fun assuming they sign 8 new starters on the OL & DL

horsefeathers this team for making me look at Tankathon already

QB A:

13 games, 67.8% comp %, 16 TD, 10 INT, 6.8 Y/A, 90.1 QB Rating, 49.7 QBR

Y/A, 90.1 QB Rating, 49.7 QBR

QB B:

15 games, 60.4% comp %, 17 TD, 11 INT, 7.1 Y/A, 85.2 QB Rating, 56.3 QBR

A is Tua's last season with Flores, B is Fields last season.  This is probably more of case of choosing statistics to create the argument I want to create, the biggest difference between them is Tua's accuracy and his lack of rushing so his QBR is more directly related to passing than Justin's is.  So maybe a new coach won't make a difference (the 3rd for Fields), but I was just trying to think of situations where a QB did make a huge leap, and saw this mentioned on Reddit.

Should this happen I'd be shocked, if assuming its Poles, isn't hyper aggressive in FA and spends nearly every penny of their salary cap space.

I look at Williams highlights and I see a lot of wide open guys and long, slow developing plays.

Maybe I just want too much from a college qb

Draft him and have him sit a whole year and watch Fields so he understands exactly what he can't get away with anymore.

Chuck Noll was retained, the Steelers got the #1 pick, got Terry Bradshaw (ironically won a coin flip vs the Bears for the right to pick 1st), and started a dynasty and have only had 2 other coaches since 1969.

Folks, we aren't bad....we are just in the beginning stages of a dynasty!

Jalen Carter has a sack and 2 forced fumbles on MNF. He’s been one of the better defensive players in the entire league so far. Wright may end up being very solid and I get the character concerns with Carter and the argument that he had to be in a structure like Philly or whatever but Poles may have massively fucked up. Traded out of number 1 overall to 9th and still had the chance to draft the best non-QB in the draft.
