What makes this all worse for White Sox fans is they can't even root for the tank, since large market teams can't pick in the lottery for consecutive years.  They are locked into the #10 spot in the first round no matter what happens from here on out.

After seemingly, for a short time anyway, becoming less terrible, the WSox have returned to historic levels of awfulness. They currently stand at 27-77 on pace for a 42-120 season. However, we have still not hit the trade deadline. If they do indeed move even a couple of Fedde/Crochet/Roberts we might be talking about a team that fails to win 40 games. In the modern era, this has not happed since 1935. Their current .260 winning percentage would be the 6th worst since 1901. If they did manage to win only 39 games, that .241 winning percentage would be the 2nd worst since 1901.

If they played .500 ball the rest of the year (29-29), they'd still finish 56-106.  They'd have to go 36-22 the rest of the season to avoid losing 100 games..

14 in a row now, for the 2nd time this year,  and their .250 WP is just barely hanging onto 40 win pace.

If you remove the 2 14 game losing streaks, they still have the worst winning percentage in baseball.

Fun thought. The White Sox currently have 54 games left. They would have to win every single one to reach .500 this year.

if you removed every loss except the 2 14 game losing streaks, and kept the wins... their record would still be below .500

So you are saying there's a chance?

That is really hard to fathom, especially for a team that had little incentive to outright tank the season.

Well the White Sox were winning tonight. Then the 8th inning happened and they gave up 2 solo homers and a grand slam. Now they're down 8-5 in the bottom of the 9th.

If only Hawk were still calling games this season would be peak, and I mean peak schadenfreude. It would be borderline orgasmic.

As it stands, it's merely fun.

I don't dislike the WS. I don't think much about them at all. I think it's more fun when Chicago has good teams. They are awful and have incompetent people running the organization. I wish this were the case for the Cardinals and Brewers. The WS and Cubs are more alike than we want to admit.

30. Chicago White Sox

Record: 27-82
Last Power Ranking: 30

Even better than a trade: Buying copies of “The World Without Us” by Alan Weisman for everyone in the front office

When we’re gone, the flora and fauna will take back the land. Buildings will crumble and return to the earth. There will be traces of humanity left over — nuclear waste and plastics, to name two — but even the bytes and bits of our digital footprint will decay and disintegrate. Every ballpark and book and newspaper and picture will eventually disappear.

And if all evidence of baseball disappears, that means there will be no memory of the 2024 White Sox. The days are long, but the years are short. Every second is another one closer to this sweet, sweet release. — Brisbee

From The Athletic this morning. They did power rankings and listed one thing each team could use that wasn't a trade... for the Cubs it was 2023 Cody Bellinger

I wish I could get enjoyment out of their misery but I really only care about cubs baseball and there’s been nothing fun about this season.

You don't have Hardcore knuckle dragging white sox fans in your family do you?

If you did you be enjoying the Sox misery immensely. Terrible fan base with the worst little brother syndrome you've ever seen. Every time I kind of feel bad for the white socks I just remember their fanbase and I smile.

Despite my previous post, I don't know that it's fun or enjoyment as much as it is like a car crash in that you can't take your eyes off it. In this scenario there was the initial car crash then 30 seconds later another car crashes into those cars and this continues on perpetually. At this point I've convinced myself the White Sox are going to do something monumentally stupid like try and attach Benintendi's contract to Crochett.

The White Sox breaking a 100 year franchise record for most consecutive losses in a row with 14 losses in a row and then breaking that record only one month later with 15 losses in a row is pretty wild.

Especially since they generally haven’t been very good for the entirety of the franchise.
