I didn't expect the White Sox to be good but I didn't expect anyone in the ALC to be "good". The Twins and Guardians look like high-80s wins teams unless things really click for either team, then they have a shot to cross into the low 90s.

But at this rate, the Sox will be out of the race by May 15th.

They're hosed for a good while.  They'll get a little relief from a few inefficient contracts after this year but they also lose Giolito, and they just have so many gaps to fill and one of the worst farm systems to lean on to build up the depth that has and will continue to kill them.

I do feel a little bad because I don't have any animosity towards the franchise, and Hahn's roster construction always struck me as more logical than Ken Williams, whose teams I felt obliged to dislike as to not reward bad process.  But selfishly there's a few players I think could be interesting fits if the Sox do want to hit the reset button, and there's fewer of those happening with the additional wild card and raft of pre-FA extensions, so if they collapse I'm happy to help pick up the pieces.

As much as it sucks for them, it is probably good for the game on a macro level that a full teardown failed so much.  The Phillies too, they were in a worse course until Dombrowski pulled them out of it (which partially involved opening the checkbook wider).

I'll be interested to see how thoroughly the Sox tear it down this summer.  I'd probably move Cease, Moncada, Giolito, Lynn, and some relievers.  Do they have the stones to do all of that in one fell swoop?

Also let's start speaking into existence now Jed bringing Cease home.

They probably need to, as it should shorten the rebuild process by a couple of years if they do it right.

That's a really bad division though.  Obviously if the Sox continue playing anything like they have been over the first few weeks of the season, it won't matter.  On the other hand, if they can get Tim Anderson back and just start playing slightly above .500 baseball for awhile, it isn't crazy to think they could be right back in the race by early summer.

They're already 7 back of the division and the wild card though.  Even if you think they can somehow win the division or get a WC berth with 85 wins, they'd have to play at a 92+ win pace the rest of the year to get there.

I definitely don't expect any Wild Card spots to come out of the AL Central, but if there's any division in baseball that a team could back into a playoff spot with under 90 wins, that division is the most likely candidate.  Still rather unlikely, but at least they aren't 13 games out in the AL East.

Sure, it's possible, but going into the season both Minnesota and Cleveland looked better than the White Sox. A month into the season, that's definitely the case. It's incredibly unlikely the Sox - especially with that farm system - find a way to flip the script and pass two teams that are better, have more depth, and have already staked a significant lead.

i'll admit that i thought their rebuild was close to as good as ours at one point. i thought they were destined for a similar run

It sure looked and felt that way with Robert, Anderson, Giolito, et al.

But then the farm system didn't only fail to provide depth behind those great players, it failed entirely.

The recent White Sox are a good example of how badly things can go with a stars and scrubs approach to roster-building.

Sox and Guardians showing their frustration now. Jimenez will get injured just by being in the same zip code.

Ramirez with the 10-8 round over Anderson.

That’s a weird one. Something else must have happened for Ramirez to get so ticked. Like did he not like Anderson holding the tag or something? That kind of thing happens all the time.

So I just watched the entire sequence on MLBTV. Shockingly, Steve Stone (and Jason Benetton to a degree) pinned the incident on Ramírez.  Forget the fact that it was Tim who first dropped his glove hockey style and went into a boxing/street brawl stance.

As far a Eloy, yep, he was injured. But it looks like his foot was stepped on.
