Also we’ll have Ohtani as the DH next year so that spot won’t be open.

Good point!

Not gonna lie, as I was reading the first part of this tweet, I was expecting it to be a defense of his old team like "I didn't see that kind of stuff", but nope more piling on.

He sure as heck wouldn't play the OF for us. And I'm not certain that he's a better hitter than Morel at DH.

Not sure I see the point.

Eloy in the Wrigley OF is a career-ending injury waiting to happen.

And he still didn't want to be traded back to St. Louis.

The Cubs IL is probably a lot different than the Sox IL

Yeah, they'd still wait a month or two to put him on the IL even after he killed himself slamming into the bricks.

Need to check and see if the White Sox message board is still around for a good laugh. Half of them might have gotten arrested on 1/6/2021

White Sox Interactive makes this place seem packed. There's a pretty small amount of people still active over there.

Wait I thought their forum closed down several years ago.  Did it get reborn again somewhere?  I miss reading their Cubs sub-forum with some of the most deranged takes on the Cubs I've ever seen.

They used to have an ongoing thread keeping track of the number of stories about the Cubs and White Sox in the Tribune and Sun-Times and thats barely scratching the surface.

If I were the WSox I'd be begging to move to Nashville. That way they can actually be relevant. It's kind of sad that even when they're good and the Cubs are bad they still play second fiddle in Chicago.

It would be even more embarrassing to play second fiddle to the braves down there.

Eh, they’ve never had any real sustained success. The closest they came to it was early aughts when they went 7 seasons without being under .500. But they’ve only made the playoffs in back to back seasons once in their existence. They were cool in the 90s when the cubs were irrelevant, but they came up way short. If they ever won consistently they’d get more attention. The problem is the product. The Mets are second fiddle to the Yankees but they don’t really care. There’s nothing wrong with being second fiddle to a team in the same city. You have to overcome it with good investments and community outreach. They won’t be relevant in Nashville with the same product, struggling to keep up with small market franchises that aren’t doing anything themselves

More like the Cardinals, but yes.

Yeah I agree.  Even if the White Sox had 25% of the Chicago market they'd still have more available fans here than they would in the entire Nashville metro area.  In reality, the number is probably closer to 40-45%.

The Sox were probably the most popular team in Chicago in the 50s and then again from the 70's to the 84 Cubs. Most of their fanbase is out in the south suburbs, just move them to Naperville or Tinley Park

I don’t agree with this at all regarding popularity of the two teams in the 70s. I grew up in the SW suburbs and I don’t recall things being overly skewed toward the WS.

From 1970 thru 1980, the Cubs outdrew the WS in attendance every year except 1974 and 1977. And a few years it was by a considerable amount. And this was when the Cubs didn’t benefit from night baseball limiting who could attend games, especially in April - May and September. Also, the Cubs had the benefit of being on a much more regularly watched/popular television station in WGN.  Harry went to the in 1975 (I think) but Jack already a Chicago icon.

That all said, F the White Sox. I’m a hater because that’s how I was raised (although they’ve been almost exclusively irrelevant in my adult life).

I hear there's a piece of prime real estate available out in Arlington Heights that's basically stadium-ready!

Funny enough I've seen White Sox fans think the Bears would be interested in going in with the WSox on building an Arlington stadium. Remind me again why the Bears would need anything at all from the WSox and what they could possibly gain in that relationship?
