Justin Fields and some other guys will play the Lions on Sunday. People that said the Bears wouldn't be favored in another game this year were wrong, though certainly being less than 3 point favorites against the Lions at home is nothing to brag about.

Lions had been having nothing but shootouts to start the season but seems like their offense has regressed quite a bit the last few weeks. I'm sure they will relish the opportunity to "get right" this weekend. They can move into 2nd in the NFC North with a win and Packers loss.

horsefeathers it. I want a win. I want a blowout win. I'm probably setting myself up for disappointment. But I want 30 points again. I want the Lions to be the typical Lions. I want Dan Campbell on the hot seat after this. I want Fields to eat his children.

I'd like to see a win as well, and I don't think it will jeopardize the draft position too much.

You gotta learn how to win a little bit and you gotta keep the players motivated, and it would be fun to give Fields a reason to celebrate a bit more.

I dont really feel that way about the Lions. The Packers on the other hand....

It's not really about the Lions. The Patriots game was unexpected and seemed a little fluke-y. Dallas was fun, but loss. Miami was fun, also a loss. But this is as expected a win that's left on the schedule. I want a preview of what a good offensive team should do to teams like the Lions. And that's how they should be bad teams going forward

I understand that point, but I also want the Packers coach on the hot seat, their children eaten...etc

Well, I do too, but I didn't mention the Packers, ya know....because they are irrelevant to the Bears at Lions gamethread.

I know, rushing record and all, but this game wasn't all a bunch of improvisational excellence. Fields did some great things as an actual QB, not just as a running QB.

- The 11 yard screen to Claypool, looked like a check at the line. Fields saw off man coverage and signaled to Claypool to widen to create more space for him (who probably doesn't know many checks yet), got it to him 1-on-1 and he broke a tackle for a 1st down. Rodgers does this all day if you let him.

- The TD to Kmet seems like an easy toss that was blocked well and Kmet made the run after catch. But that play worked because of the fake handoff. It was something they pointed out in camp that Rodgers did very well and Fields actually tried to do it early in the year and got sacked because the fake wasn't good enough.

- Obviously the TD throw to Mooney was beautiful, but he read the beautiful route combination and hung in there and threw that ball with a guy in his face. There was another check to Mooney to go deep in the opposite endzone. It was well covered, and a non perfect throw, but loved the recognition.

- Threw a dime on the DPI call Claypool did get early in the game.

- Then there's the RPO stuff. Fields has misread some reads the last 2 years, actually been disappointing how much he has misread a concept he ran in college at the pro level. But he made the right read all day. That's not a throwing thing, but its something a QB these days has to be able to do well. Tua does it flawlessly which is why he's leading the league in passer rating.

i thought it was strange how early in the Miami game Fields was hitting open targets 10-15 yards downfield early in the game, but those passes stopped as the game progressed. Maybe Miami made adjustments that took away those open receivers, but with Miami putting a spotter on Fields to protect against the run, I would have thought more 10-15 yard pass plays would have been available. Maybe it was just the pocket breaking down too early.

But, that's where I think a better OLine will help Fields even more. He's a threat to run, but with some protection, i think he will have his pick of targets in the open field. I can't wait until there is a complete offense to let him do his thing. Now to avoid being killed by Hutchinson this week.

I feel like one of the better signals of Fields development has been Kmet. 3 Td passes in the last 2 games. Kmet was always a question on his own development path, but it appears that as Fields gets better, so goes Kmet.

Yeah, I watched the JT O'Sullivan breakdown and he pointed out the Dolphins definitely clamped up the coverage after that first drive. He blamed lack of talent on the outside, but I honestly think it's tough in the NFL to get open just running straight against non-press coverage that you don't completely beat off the line. The Bears need to run rub routes and crossers to get guys open (everyone does) and it seems like there aren't enough of guys just beating their man.

JT actually mentioned that on the incompletion to the outside. The TE rubbed the cover guy of the outside receiver and he came open on a crosser but Fields had decided pre snap to throw outside and didn't wait for it to come open. Would have been an easy completion for a 1st down if he saw it. They're doing those things and while the improvement has been exponential, he's definitely still a work in progress.

Fields is up to 13th in QBR(55.1) and after the Detroit game has a solid shot at top 10 which is 58.6. He also ranks 11th in all of the NFL in rushing yards at 602.

He's got to be just about #1 in yards per rush given some arbitrary cutoff in attempts, too, right?

4th at 6.6 if you count 2 guys who played 1 and 2 games this season, 2nd if you count guys who play weekly. Lamar Jackson averages 7.4.

Bears are on pace for 3 players with over 750 yards rushing this year, with the starting RB (and leader in carries) the only one not on pace for over 1100.

He's completely answered my complaints from earlier in the season. He's throwing balls decisively and on-time. Earlier in the season he had this weird habit of shifting himself toward the pressure, but I haven't seen him do that in a month.

If I really wanted to nitpick, his accuracy is still kinda meh. It's usually good enough and he'll throw some perfect ones, but there's better QBs out there at placing the ball.

But get him a real OL and WR group and the sky's the limit.
