The terms get kind of intertwined, but I define "rebuilding" as taking some time to focus less resources (money, draft picks, trade value, etc.) on the present and more on a few years down the road. "Tanking" is actively trying to lose as many games as possible in the present in order to improve draft position.

Rebuilding is often justified, although I'd love to see leagues find ways to discourage it.

The value of tanking is *way* overblown outside of true generational talents. You don't want to be the 1997 Bears, winning 3 in the last month to go from drafting Peyton Manning to drafting Curtis Enis.

But the difference between drafting 7th and 12th is washed out by the loss of value in your present-day assets underperforming, so you might as well root for your team to win.

Yea, the narrow end of season tank (IR every vet who has hang nail) is a different animal than attacking a tank in March.

Eagles went for that one game tank and it got them like 6 slots and those 6 slots ended up being very consequential. And people were maaaddd about it. But Howie is one of the best GMs in the game, so he did it.

Quick and dirty rules

Cap utilization (as cash spending)

<85% of cap as cash : tanking

85-95% of cap : rebuilding

95-105% of cap : trying for playoffs

105-120% : think you're a contender

120%+ : all in baby

Draft pick usage:

Trading any vet possible for picks : tanking

Trading away vets older than 28 : rebuilding

Trading picks for vets older than 28 : think you're a contender

Trading picks for vets older than 31 : all in baby

Fields is starting to anticipate pressure. He had a guy that looked ready to blindside him and he scrambled and flipped to Kmet for a 9 yard gain

I am going full meatball: the Refs are biased against the Bears

Let Fields throw here, but also, if you get 6-7 yards, go for it on 4th down.

Limit your punts, the defense cannot do anything

First real holding call on Jones.

Lions defense did a nice job containing fields on that set of downs but it’s easier when you are in 2nd and 16/3rd and 14 situations

Posted

Bears get 3rd and 14: run the ball or have a drop back with immediate pressure and no open WR

Lions get a 3rd and 15: calmly survey the field with no pressure and find a WR 25 yards down the field without anyone within 5 yards of them.

It literally doesn’t matter what the Lions do on 1st down. Goff could have a snap go over his head for a 20 yard loss. They will still convert it with ease

what about rushing 4 seems like a good idea

Goff is grilling steaks back there

They keep blitzing Brisker, who runs straight into a lineman each time and does nothing.

I mean this quite seriously: this defense may only force single digit punts for the rest of the season *combined*

If you’re defense is that bad you have to take more risks offensively
