I want to win this game and I want to blow up our draft position. The 7th seed in the NFC is going to go to an ass team that will probably be 9-8 or maybe even 8-9.

We can't really get there but I want to be calculating improbable but theoretically possible scenarios in the final weeks.

1 1/2 games behind SF for the final wildcard spot, who the Bears have the H2H against. Of course, the Niners appear extremely likely to get better down the stretch. The AFC South winner will be terrible, but the most likely way a wildcard team gets in at 9-8 or 8-9 is if teams like Seattle or the Giants implode, and both are at least 3 games ahead in the loss column. Giants have a really tough schedule though. Seattle's one of the easiest on paper, but part of them collapsing would probably mean a couple losses to the Rams, who would then be in competition with a hot Bears team for that last spot.

I felt like the no-call PI at the end of the Dolphins game kind of sealed the Bears fate. At this point I wouldn't feel confident that the Bears have any shot at the playoffs outside of running the table and going 11-6, or the Vikings losing Cousins for the season - soon.

It's crazy how close the Bears are to an almost good season. Catching a punt, calling a DPI or 1/2 yard on 2 different plays from beating Washington. Non DPI call vs. Miami, maybe even win without the 4th down drop. Fumbles vs. Minnesota. QB sneak fail vs. GB almost made that a winnable game. Giants game was a winnable mess. I feel like if you switched the schedule with any 2 of WAS, GB, NYG to the last 2 weeks, instead had Miami and Dallas first 5 weeks, the Bears would be 5-4 right now.

Lions' DL is going to give the Bears problems, guess, when comes to pass blocking, we could say that of any DL they'll face. Nevertheless, think we'll see plenty of moving the pocket, quick outs, jet sweeps, with an occasional deep shot. Just don't think Fields is going to able to drop back much, which'll probably be ok.

Yeah I’m just going to assume all DL’s will be able to collapse the pocket with regularity against the Bears.

Who knew Lesean McCoy hated Justin Fields so much.

Also Steven Ruiz dies QB rankings for The Ringer. Has Fields up to 24th best qb behind Mac, Daniel Jones, and Matt Ryan. Had Fields at 36th 4 or 5 weeks ago. Not a mention of Fields on Twitter from him on Fields.

Then Lombardi claims Fields is just a RB.

Lombardi must have the same view of Jackson and Hurts, no? Or it just blind everything the Bears do is dumb and will never work kind of stuff?

Like are we still doing this? Josh Allen is on pace for a career high in rushing yards (pushing 800). Daniel Jones has more rushing yards per game than about 10 starting RBs. QBs have to be able to scramble these days. Brady, Rodgers are struggling without the ability to run around. Matt Ryan was literally killed because of his immobility. Jackson, Hurts, Murray were all "just RBs" until they put up MVP level seasons early in their careers. This opinion is stupid, outdated, and very likely racist.

I thought of the race issue as well, the old black QB's cannot pass BS.

The media is hilarious with how they drive narratives. 4 weeks ago Fields was a bust and the Bears would probably be looking for QBs in the draft. After 3 games of stellar play now the conversation is how elite Fields is and whether he's a top 10 QB and how he's the best QB in his draft class. I'm not saying I disagree with those narratives, he has been extremely good the last 3 weeks. It's just funny how quickly the narrative changes, I've seen like 20 articles/clips from taking heads this week discussing how elite Fields is.

Really exciting time to be a Bears fan right now

LOL, it's pretty hilarious. ESPN and NFL Network are talking about the Bears in a positive light, not just after a primetime embarrassing loss. I've even seen some say the Bears can make a run at a playoff spot in a weak NFC.

Obviously, the Bears and Fields himself have a long way to go. I think he'll have to show that he can put up big numbers thru the air before he will be universally regarded as "elite". But it's fun seeing everyone doing victory laps if they believed from the start, and eating crow if they thought like Mike Martz.

lol at the playoffs talk. If the Bears can’t win with Fields putting up historically great numbers, I can’t see them making a run against I think one of the hardest remaining schedules in the league. Then you add in the fact that the bears are barely disguising their desire to tank (for example look at the Bears offensive pace when down 2 scores in the 4th quarter against Dallas). Nah I’ll just enjoy Fields balling out, hoping for them to win but not too disappointed if they lose

Schedule is really only hard because 3 games.

Philly, Buffalo, and Minnesota. That Minnesota game might be a rest game.

Detroit x2

@Atlanta

Green Bay are extremely winnable.

Getting ahead of ourselves A LOT, getting 9 wins could depend on that Jets game. Obviously you can’t assume beating Green Bay, but in some crazy world where we win 3 in a row to get to 6-6 Fields beating Green Bay to get us to 7-6 would be AMAZING.

Sorry for dreaming a little!

I'm torn. This team isn't like the Cubs were at the end of this past season, where you could see promising young guys start to develop and the team could conceivably be a contender in 2023. On the other hand, I don't like it when a team consistently loses with zero hope for improvement without completely tanking.

I support the tank generally speaking with this team, but if they put together a 7-10 or better season, so be it.

Posted
For me (to be clear, I don't care about the Bears very much), it would depend on why they are winning; who's getting it done. Much like the Cubs winning because of variance in performance by back benchers like Esteban Quiroz or Frank Schwindel for that matter, not very exciting unless it's the actual good young talent doing it. I know plenty of fans who disagree vehemently with me on this though.

My only trepidation with all the positivity and excitement from the media with Fields is now it feels like they're going to set people's expectations too high and when he has a bad game or two (which is inevitable) people will flip all the more on him.

But whatever, I don't think anything super bad is gonna happen. Keep building off positive experiences and develop.

The terms get kind of intertwined, but I define "rebuilding" as taking some time to focus less resources (money, draft picks, trade value, etc.) on the present and more on a few years down the road. "Tanking" is actively trying to lose as many games as possible in the present in order to improve draft position.

Rebuilding is often justified, although I'd love to see leagues find ways to discourage it.

The value of tanking is *way* overblown outside of true generational talents. You don't want to be the 1997 Bears, winning 3 in the last month to go from drafting Peyton Manning to drafting Curtis Enis.

But the difference between drafting 7th and 12th is washed out by the loss of value in your present-day assets underperforming, so you might as well root for your team to win.
