It’s going to be hilarious when the Padres lose in the first round.

have to think that fans of the lowly $1.6B franchise probably think it's hilarious that they just added the best hitter in baseball and are fine with hitting the CBT while an esteemed $3.8B franchise doing a multi-year firesale and preaching wisdom of fiscal responsibility twenty games under .500

Jay's are trading Jordan Groshans for Marlins reliever Zach Pop. So they're willing to deal.

Groshans has a .296 slugging percentage in AAA. Wow.

Not that I'm pining away to trade Wilson, but it seems strange that nothing is bubbling after the early rumors this morning.

hopefully he stays and the Cubs can say to him "we asked for the moon because you're worth it" and resign him in a tearful hollywood ending

idc about today but remember the day the Cubs traded for nomar? That was fun.

"Hey, I'm old" story: In the days before cell phones, I went to work at my summer job at the movie theater that day after the deadline assuming the deal hadn't occurred, then my friends drove over just to tell me that not only had we gotten him, we hadn't given up Matt Clement (which I was very determined we not do). Good day.

I was at sheffields, after the game. I remember they played the Phillies because some Philly people I knew happened to be there. Good times.

Irrational pessimism is starting to creep in the closer we get to the deadline

There's no such thing as "irrational" pessimism when it comes to the Cubs.

Really don't trust Jed and the GM to get the best possible value.

Hoyer honestly did a really good job at the trade deadline last year, but it just really feels like they've backed themselves into a corner here with the number of reported suitors dwindling.

I'm totally fine with keeping Willson and Happ if it means we're going to, oh I don't know, sign Willson to an extension, invest in the payroll and try to actually compete before waiting to see whether all our top prospects hit (which they won't). I just...don't think that's what we're looking at.

They killed the deadline last year by all accounts, there’s over two hours left and a lot of the trades done last year (KB/Javy) went to the wire and they also had the year they acquired Castellanos that was announced after. Whatever route they take I think it should be good.
