Illinois would be pretty scary with an all-B1G PG.

Fully expecting them to lose Thursday, because they always play like garbage against Maryland.

I admit I haven't been paying much attention so far. Is Curbelo going to take a red shirt at this point or is he still hoping to be able to play this year?

The rules this year are a bit different, due to everyone getting a free eligibility year for last year. Anyone who plays in any game can't get a redshirt, so there's no chance of it this year for Curbelo. They're being super careful with him, because they rushed him back earlier just to play terrible for 2 games and lose both almost solely due to his play, which was clearly impeded by his condition.

Good news is that he's joining the shootaround and practicing with the team now, so a return is imminent if tthere are no further setbacks.

Sounded encouraging, hopefully, he'll return with no more side effects and be the dynamic PG we saw last year.

Given how Minnesota played vs. Michigan thought the Illini might be for a tough game but, the guard play of the Illini is much better than Michigan and Minnesota doesn't have the height or mass to contend with Kofi, the Gophers really didn't have a chance. They have played like crap against Maryland in the past, that's true. If they continue to play like last night I think their chances against Maryland are pretty good.

Thanks for the Curbelo updates. Hopefully he's fully healthy and can get to 100% on the court as we go along.

A 10-3 record is actually better than where I thought they were at this point.

Yeah, 10-3, with 2 straight losses in the "Curbelo is absolutely not right, he should not be playing" era, and the 4 point loss to Arizona where they got outworked, and Underwood said in the postgame that he'd make sure that never happened again this year. Since then, they've been basically rolling teams.

I know Wisconsin' pretty good, but, holy horsefeathers Iowa is terrible and it's awesome.

Love what the Illini did to Maryland tonight on D first half, Maryland got some calls, took advantage of poor defensive play by the Illini guards, second half the Illini put and end to Scott' and Ayala' success. Scott had 15 at the half, 2 the rest of the game, think it was Williams who clamped down on him. It was nice to see the Illini kick their asses the second half and finally put them away.

BU update on Curbelo in today's postgame, says he's cleared medically to play, just have to get his conditioning right.

Now the Illini have a 4 day layoff followed by a game in Nebraska, seems like a good spot to get him some burn off the bench leading up to a game vs Michigan following.

iowa state made 3 second half field goals last night and won. college basketball is ugly.

Kansas missed 20 consecutive shots to close out the first half against OK State, and was tied. Would go on to win.

I didn’t hear this in his post, do you have a link?

This is where I got it from: https://247sports.com/college/illinois/Article/Illinois-Fighting-Illini-basketball-Ayo-Dosunmu-Chicago-Bulls-honored-jersey-Andre-Curbelo-injury-update-Kofi-Cockburn-national-player-of-the-year-179929840/

On the broadcast they mentioned Curbelo participating in the shootaround and scout team drills, and they asked BU in the postgame about it, and he responded that it's all about conditioning now, they want to make sure he's 100% and won't get reinjured out on the court.

I don't know what was wrong with Kofi last night, but he looked completely gassed. He was letting people blow past him on defense and giving up rebounds he usually doesn't. They got away with it against Nebraska, but that's probably not going to happen against Michigan.

I thought so as well, to be fair, the officials were allowing Nebraska to do just about anything they wanted to him, pushing, holding, hitting him in the face, takes its toll after a while. I thought Curbelo had lost it when he was screaming at the officials in the second half, now I know why -

Apparently that idiot did the same horsefeathers in 1st half when Frazier missed a FT, bush league [expletive].

Has Big Ten officiating gotten worse? They tried like hell to had MSU the game today, so many terrible calls, but, you still lost Izzo.

Crazy double OT game. Kofi’s quick 3rd and 4th fouls early in the second half and Stefanovic going off ended up being the difference.

Still, I think for the Illini you take this as a positive, with Curbelo going for 20 points, 5 boards and 3 assists, and looking like the player we’d thought he’d be heading into the year. Illinois is not going to lose too many games the rest of the regular season as he gets integrated back into the lineup.

Most definitely looked so much better, hopefully, the post concussion effects are behind him, bigger and better things on the horizon for the Illini. Would not be all that surprised if neither the Illini or Purdue loss another game going into the game on 2/10.

The game I really want the Illini to win and win big is vs. MSU. Lost all respect for Izzo after that goon squad hit on Ayo, dude literally punched him in the face. I may be wrong but, I'm almost certain the goon was allowed to remain in the game nor did he get a flagrant foul. I firmly believe that had repercussions down the line because, Ayo re-aggravated the injury when he got popped in face towards the end of the Big Ten Championship game, he was definitely not 100% for tournament. It was obvious in the Loyola game.

Almost certain they held out Curbelo so long because they felt like they brought Ayo back too quickly last year.

So no different than when he was here then.

Yeah that’s about as “good” a Big Ten loss you can have on your home court, all things considered. Curbelo looked great. I wish they got a little more of a two-man game going with him and Kofi to get Kofi some better looks because Edey was just sealing him up when they’d feed him in the post. Bosmans-Verdonk came up big and played with a lot of confidence after Kofi fouled out.

Purdue is very impressive. They have so many weapons on offense and their defense looked stronger than advertised.

I’ve not been able to watch as much Illini basketball this year as the past few seasons. Did Hawkins fall out of the rotation? Whenever I do watch it seems he barely sees the fooor.

Hawkins had the flu today, which is why it hurt even more to have Kofi and Payne unavailable basically the entire second half.

Illini gave me a scare today. Curbelo is almost unguardable. Extremely impressed by him. Illinois' perimeter defense is extremely good. It's hard for me to tell how good their in the paint D is as Edey doesn't leave much for an honest evaluation. Trevion also makes it difficult because of his post moves and ability to dish. I feel like the Illinois game plan was to not allow anything easy outside of the arc, which made it very difficult to track cuts through the key. They also did a very good job of deterring Ivey from driving the lane.

I saw a lot of contested 3pt shots from the Illini. I feel like Curbelo and Cockburn both on the floor can help to space things out. They shot well, I have to think they shoot better when they can free up their sharpshooters.

This is definitely the dog days right now. Every game against even a marginally talented team is a battle, let alone a top tournament seed like Illinois.

I would say this is the first day all season Illinois has actually had a healthy team, but their primary backup big (Hawkins) had the flu, so maybe next game.
