Illini gave me a scare today. Curbelo is almost unguardable. Extremely impressed by him. Illinois' perimeter defense is extremely good. It's hard for me to tell how good their in the paint D is as Edey doesn't leave much for an honest evaluation. Trevion also makes it difficult because of his post moves and ability to dish. I feel like the Illinois game plan was to not allow anything easy outside of the arc, which made it very difficult to track cuts through the key. They also did a very good job of deterring Ivey from driving the lane.

I saw a lot of contested 3pt shots from the Illini. I feel like Curbelo and Cockburn both on the floor can help to space things out. They shot well, I have to think they shoot better when they can free up their sharpshooters.

This is definitely the dog days right now. Every game against even a marginally talented team is a battle, let alone a top tournament seed like Illinois.

I think Edey is slow and foul prone, he can be had by a mobile big man, I know that's not Kofi's game. However, I do believe, in comparison, he's faster than Edey and a better athlete. We may see more of that the next game perhaps, more so, with a healthy Hawkins than Kofi. The straight post up and bully your way to the basket won't work with Edey.

Of course. However, the scouting report is out on Edey... he continues to put up big numbers. 7-4 is not easy to deal with in college hoops.

With Curbelo back in the rotation for the Illini they'll be better, his ability to get anywhere with the ball and dish is going to help out with drawing reaching fouls on Edey. I think the Illini will change the approach for the rematch, try to get Edey moving, if they can do that they'll get him in foul trouble. I'd try having Kofi on pick and rolls, cuts to the goal, back door cuts, most especially with Curbelo at PG.

Texas A&M went 1-22 from 3-point range and 5-13 from the FT line yet only lost to Kentucky by 6 points. A&M led most of the game and was rarely down by more than one possession when not leading. Missed a huge opportunity for a resume building win. It's frustrating but at the same time validates our record to a degree. We still have a ways to go but the potential is there.

HOO HOO HOO! I didn't even realize IU and Purdue played tonight. And the Hoosiers beat #4 for their first win over a good team in at least 4 years.

The last time IU beat Purdue was like 9 months before the Cubs won the World Series. :hello:

The most amazing part of the win tonight is TJD was on the bench with foul trouble for pretty much the entire game so to see the rest of the team rally and make it happen, really incredible. A career night for Rob P and that was the difference in the game. IU was down 16-8 when he entered the game and he singlehandedly let them back and got the crowd energy back.

Another concussion for the Illini tonight, this time its Kofi, WTF is it with the Illini and concussions lately? Do not recall a basketball team have so many players with concussions over the last two years. Guess, like Curbelo, it happened in practice and, was aggravated by the elbow he took to face from Edey on Monday. Without Kofi the Illini still have enough to beat Maryland tonight, Curbelo being back will surely help with that.

At least they called a foul on Edey for that elbow right?

Nope. I tell you what though, when Kofi comes back and starts to take some "accidental" or "incidental" shots to face/head, if I'm Underwood, I go nuts on the officials and the opposing coach. That's cheap [expletive] trying to take a player out.

Illinois somehow beats MSU with noCockburn, no Curbelo, a sick Frazier who still played 38 minutes, and no big men at all for the last 5 minutes (Payne, the backup, fouled out, and Ben Verdonk, the back up backup, went out with injury with 5 to play).

How the hell did this happen? Out rebounded, out shot at the FT line, still managed to win, much like the Illini' loss to OSU last season. Nice to be on the other side for a change.

They didn’t just not score. The Illini got the rebound and tossed it all the way down the court for a dunk.

Rough game. Kofi didn’t get a lot of help on the offensive side of the court.

They need Curbelo to finally come back. Frazier looks gassed out there.

I don't know what's the deal this season however, an inappropriate number of bad calls have gone against the Illini this season. They're not even of the questionable variety, the Illini are getting called for fouls when they literally don't touch the opposing player, no calls when one of their players gets hit in the head multiple times - Nebraska and, of course, Edey on Kofi. I know this tends to even out hence, there should many favorable calls in the Illini' future.

Trent was fouled while in mid-air for a driving shot, and inexplicably wasn't given free throws.

there were a couple of those . . . and the phantom foul on Plummer. The referees were awful.

Illinois's offense looked very stale though.

Trent's the only one who can even halfway consistently create for others, and he's playing 40 minutes chasing around the opponent's best guard every game. And he can't come out because nobody else can run the offense. Curbelo is desperately needed.

Huge Illinois-Wisconsin game tonight in blizzard conditions, to the point where anyone travelling for the game couldn't get there. So Illinois did something smart and said any students would be admitted to the game free, and provided an avenue for anyone who had tickets and couldn't make it to the game could easily move their tickets to someone who could make the game.

The result is that the entire crowd tonight is basically all Illinois students, and it's ass raucous an atmosphere as has been at the SFC all season.

If they beat IU on Saturday, they would be comfortably in the top 10 if not for the Maryland disaster.

If they could ever get their whole team on the court at the same time . . .

huge win at IU - this was a trap game for sure and to win by 17 on the road is big.

My local team, the Arizona Wildcats played #3 UCLA on Thursday and avenged a loss nine days earlier in LA with a double-digit win. And then two days later, today, they took out #19 USC. Should be enough to get back into the Top 5.

Bear down!!!

The play of Arizona and to a lesser extent Indiana this year really show what crap coaches the Miller brothers are.
