This Giminez guy is going to get all the hate David Ross deserved as the backup up, old man, catcher if Yu doesn’t come

I absolutely HATED the David Ross signing. But I came around to him. I was at the game he hit his 100th HR and it was glorious. Wrigley was rocking.

 

I wonder what Mariner’s Revenge or whatever his name is thinks about Ross,

I'm still unreasonably sure this is happening but I do remember some Boston fans talking about how Theo loves drawing lines in the sand and walking away at the last minute.

 

Yeah, but I thought the line in the sand regarding pitchers was no contracts longer than 5 years? Unless I'm off by a year. But even then they broke that rule with Lester so they're obviously willing to ignore it for the right guy.

I know guys want all the guaranteed money/years they can get but it seems pretty reasonable to make it a 5th year option that vests for avg IP or an aggregate amount over the first 4 years (avg like 170 and aggregate like 650) also make it vest if he finishes top 5 in CY young voting his last year or some benchmark. We get relative protection if he blows up and he gets paid more if he reasonably performs.

I'll believe Darvish isn't getting 6 years when I see it. For all the worry about this year's FA market, all the guys who have signed have gotten what they're supposed to have gotten. As the best guy available I doubt Yu will have to settle.
