In all seriousness the futures markets can really overexpose books to liability if they're not careful. They react to rumors and speculation much more than normal lines. I think there was probably a flood of money on the Cubs to win the World Series as soon as Darvish whispers began so they had to move the odds regardless if the money was square or sharp. The real value is in the pennant futures though, sooooo if you're looking to dabble I'd start there.

I've been stomping season over-unders for a while now. I normally wait until closer to the season starting to look for value, though.

Yeah the team over/under bets were great for me last year. Usually I take ZiPS and any total +/- 3 on the win scale I bet on and it's done pretty well. Last year Khris Davis' o/u HR total was 27. I made the biggest bit I've ever made on that prop.

I can't see there being much value in any baseball futures, especially Cubs related ones (bc the amount of people who bet on them).

Regular season win totals and such, maybe...anything relying on the playoffs, no thanks.

That's not to say there's NEVER going to be value in them (i.e. some team who has an easy road to the playoffs having their WS or pennant odds undervalued, esp if it's a lower tier playoff team)

That's why you stay away from the square shops like Bovada. The public has a much bigger say and the public teams are always priced too high.

I’ve already more or less pencilled him in in my mind. It makes too much sense plus the message board guy said it was happening.

I'm close, but then I remembered that until a couple weeks ago I had Cobb penciled in. Now that we don't have to juggle a potential Yelich addition to the payroll, we can knock this one out.

Sign Darvish tonight so the Brewers fans can think it happened because the Cubs were scared of what the Brewers did today.

People here thought the Brewers were better (more complete, better, same same) than us last year??? psshh

So I never really paid attention to Heyman until last trade deadline. But after the Bryce "article" and now this gem, I was wondering, has he always been this useless and full of non-information?

It's kind of embarrassing. I don't usually go with this media member hates my favorite team take, but he sure seems to dislike the Cubs for some reason.

I haven't noticed that with him. He's just the guy who tweets a minor scoop and then covers his ass completely before the 140 characters are up

He doesn't dislike the Cubs. He just likes to write articles and Tweets that say nothing about nothing.

He also talked crap about Jalen Hurts being happy after Bama won the nat'l title game. Then spent the next day arguing with people who told him he was dumb.

He's the master at covering his ass. The Cubs are the front-runners, but look out for a mystery team or two.

There's talk that they are close but it's not a done deal just yet.

Anyone can write this horsefeathers.

Did he do it too? I know Pete Prisco did.

Heyman's fine when he's breaking news but when it's not concrete, he hedges his bets way too much. And when nothing is going on, he fills the space with mediocre analysis or predictions, nearly always deferring to the biggest spenders (Yankees and Dodgers).

Two or three years ago, after another one of his boring tweets that was again lacking any valuable information, I tweeted at him and said, "why in the hell do I follow you?"

He blocked me.

It is my greatest accomplishment on this planet.

My bad, it was Prisco...Heyman must've done something dumb other than that, that made me think it was him.
