They think our starting catcher is someone named Castillo.

Oh man alive, I didn't know Cubs fans had a similar board. They sure spend a lot of time on our board for their level of confidence that everything is going to work out and they are guaranteed the next 3 world series. It's not like their farm system is barren, their payroll will be stretched thin as soon as next season, the astros/dodgers/yankees/nationals exist, and they have significant holes in their roster for an all-in team. Aside from all that, Darvish signing makes them a lock for the next 3 world series rings...or something.

Oh and they are going to get Harper apparently, and some are joking about going after Yelich since we are rumored to have interest. They could send the Marlins their 100 best prospects and it still wouldn't get it done. I'll be looking forward to going back to their board next offseason sometime after Harper signs with someone else and laugh at all their puzzled comments and likely cursing of Harper. But, I'll be sure to avoid their board in 2124 when they are due for their next WS ring.

KeithStone53151 plans to avoid NSB in 2124. I found that to be a pretty sick burn at the end.

i don't understand why they think the cubs have mortgaged their future or whatever. is it just because they traded eloy and are wasting money on heyward? they seem to have no understanding of what the cubs plan has been from the beginning. i know sports fans are dumb in general, but this narrative they've got going over there about the cubs is too odd to ignore.

as for the barren farm system criticism-

“When people talk about our farm system, that’s great,” Epstein said. “I love our player development staff, I love our scouting operation, I know our commitment to young players, but the best part of our farm system right now is at the lower levels, where the talent is emerging, and at the big leagues, where they’re all wearing rings.”

Addison Russell is younger than the Brewers #2 prospect and is just three months older than their top prospect. He hit a grand slam in Game 6 of the World Series; at the same age, the Brewers top prospect was at AA and AAA.

Ian Happ is younger than their top two prospects and just two months older than their #3 prospect. He hit 24 home runs as a rookie last year.

Kyle Schwarber is younger than their #2 prospect. He is older than their #1 and #3 prospect, but then again, Kyle has already hit 46 MLB homeruns and 5 postseason homeruns.

Javier Báez is only two months older than their #2 prospect. When Báez was the same age as the Brewers top prospect currently is, he was busy winning NLCS MVPs and hitting a home run off Corey Kluber in Game 7 of the World Series.

Albert Almora Jr is younger than their #2 prospect and one month older than their top prospect. At the same age as Almora when he was busy scoring the go-ahead run in Game 7 of the World Series, the Brewers top prospect was in AA and AAA.

(The Brewers top 3 prospects per BA are Lewis Brinson, Brandon Woodruff and Corbin Burnes. BA says Woodruff and Burnes have MLB ceilings of #3 pitchers.)

Yeah, I was arguing with people on Twitter about all this earlier. The Brewers have a good farm system and some intriguing young talent, but how many truly impact talents do there appear to be? Lewis Brinson *could* be really good, but he sure appears to have a long way to go and is older than Ian Happ. Orlando Arcia *could* be really good, but so far he's been a 1-WAR player over his 2 years and is just 7 months younger than Addison Russell.

Everyone wants to do these rebuilds like the Cubs and Astros, and for good reason, but the Kris Bryant, Carlos Correa type talents are rare. And you need a player or two like that to really make the jump, especially if you're not a big market team that can go out and sign players with ease (and it's not just payroll related; players have to want to go to Milwaukee or Minnesota too).

I like their front office and their vision, but they will need a lot to go right. I think using a few of their prospects/young guys (like Brinson) to go get a cheap, still-young star in Christian Yelich would be a perfect move for them.

So ... my view on the Brewers system is that it's really a lot of untapped potential in some key areas, but it hasn't popped, and for specific guys, it's fair to question if it will pop. I mean, top picks Corey Ray and Trent Grisham have never gotten it going yet, and Nate Kirby has been hurt ... but the raw potential still seems to be there for the former two (as for Kirby, wait and see, and UVA pitcher history in the bigs in recent years is spotty, at best). Luis Ortiz is a nice big arm, but for all his potential, he's never really shown that "big". A lot of people seem to love Isen Diaz, but he's still a work in progress far away. A guy like Monte Harrison seemed to take a big step last year, but last reports seem to suggest his swing might be picked apart in the upper levels. The one guy I really like Freddy Peralta. He looks like an impact arm, but one wonders if they'll be patient enough with him in the rotation.

As for trading for Yelich ... it's hard to see their raw pieces being able to net Yelich without Brinson. Even with Brinson, I imagine the Marlins will want more. Yelich's contracts makes dealing Brinson for him reasonable, but it really depends on the total package. It's hard for me to imagine the Brewers landing Yelich without Brinson. I'd have to think it would be almost impossible.

I'm not huge on Orlando Arcia (he had one big season offensively in the minors that got people really jazzed, but that always seemed more like an outlier), but if the Marlins liked him, if I'm the Brewers, I'd ponder moving Arcia in a package instead of Brinson. They have some middle infielders coming up (Diaz/Dubon) and could find a stopgap veteran at short and wait on things. Brinson's potential seems more tantalizing.

Brewers fans...There's free registration here. If you guys are civil here, we'll be nice in return. Please explain to us why we should see you as a threat when this is your projected team:

The WAR of your highest projected player would place 12th on the Cubs (without Darvish). I understand projections aren't science. But there's a whole lot of room for error in that analysis with the Cubs still coming out comfortably ahead. I'd like to understand the mental gymnastics it takes for you to think you can beat us in 2018. Or 2019 when all 12 of those guys will still be under contract. Or 2020 when all 12 of those guys will still be under contract. Even going out to 2021 the team still has Bryant, Rizzo, Russell, Contreras, Baez, Scwharber, Happ, Montgomery and Almora under team control.

Brewers I would want to be Cubs (or with the org) if life was so simple:

Knebel

Hader

Brinson

Hiura

Harrison

Arcia’s a nice player and Nelson was fun until major shoulder surgery.

I like Zach Davies a lot as a No. 4-5 type (on a good team)... but I may take Chatwood over him too because of the upside and success away from Coors. I still don't really know what to think of Chase Anderson, but his changeup is pretty nasty and his run prevention has been really good for the last year and a half (2.75 ERA since July 25, 2016). Wouldn't be surprised if he went back to being super blah (and he's already 30), but that's a decent sample of success at the same time, so we'll see. Jimmy Nelson sounds ahead of schedule, but it remains to be seen how good he truly is as well.

Travis Shaw and Domingo Santana are good and maybe very good players, but yeah, given the Cubs' roster construction, they wouldn't be as important.

There is a lot of decent, but they're lacking that top-tier talent. Obviously adding a Yelich and maybe Darvish/Arrieta would go a long way to helping there, but it still may not be better than a low 80s win team on paper.

yeah, what the hell ever happened to all those ballyhooed cubs prospects anyway? now the farm system is barren!

Yeah, without a robust farm system right now, how will we fill all the holes we might have in 2022?

It really sucks when farm system is "barren" because all of your top prospects are in your MLB starting lineup.

Yeah, that Brad Robinson guy was saying something about how Darvish to the Brewers would worry him a lot more than Ozuna to the Cards (which, don't get me wrong, neither particularly would worry me all that much) and I was all like...

Your LCS starting lineup for the third year in a row.

They think the Cubs can't afford Harper if they sign Darvish this year. That's cute.

Saw that too. It's funny that they think Theo doesn't plan ahead for both. Luckily, Stearns is 30 steps ahead.

Did Tim delete the “Everyone at NSB thinks we will win the next 3 World Series” Thread?

Haha this time a post of mine got everyone here in trouble and not just me

What's all this now

Oh you know, just one of those classic #metoo inside jokes
