To get back on topic a bit.... I wouldn’t be surprised if the agreement is done (if we are to believe the poster) but teams and the league have an understanding to wait until tomorrow or Friday to announce signings/trades with HOF announcement day being today to give that it’s rightful acknowledgment. Since we know there’s the understanding on other things like during playoffs/WS to generally not announce things.

i think that's when we announce the acquisition of brian roberts too

I know it’s just speculation but I don’t think it’s the craziest thing to think what I said is true and there’s a gentlemen’s agreement in place on no announcements today.

SoxFest starts Friday. An announcement before then wouldn't be very sporting either.

Then you will love the writer's suggestion that we sign him to 8 years to lower the AAV.

it's obviously a stupid suggestion for several reasons, but he has them at the same total amount, so really who the hell would care.

the same money over more years is a good idea at any price (assuming the contract isn’t so long the commissioner vetoes it for circumventing the luxury tax).

Did anyone happen to catch the first posting of that article?

The author wrote that the Cubs failed to advance past the Nationals in the NLDS in 2017, leaving them at two NLCS appearances in the last 3 years. It was quickly edited, but how do you take the rest of the article seriously after that?

10/160 it is then with $25-30mm a year being paid the first 3-4 years in actual money and opt outs after years 3 and 4

In all seriousness the futures markets can really overexpose books to liability if they're not careful. They react to rumors and speculation much more than normal lines. I think there was probably a flood of money on the Cubs to win the World Series as soon as Darvish whispers began so they had to move the odds regardless if the money was square or sharp. The real value is in the pennant futures though, sooooo if you're looking to dabble I'd start there.

I can't see there being much value in any baseball futures, especially Cubs related ones (bc the amount of people who bet on them).

Regular season win totals and such, maybe...anything relying on the playoffs, no thanks.

That's not to say there's NEVER going to be value in them (i.e. some team who has an easy road to the playoffs having their WS or pennant odds undervalued, esp if it's a lower tier playoff team)

I've been stomping season over-unders for a while now. I normally wait until closer to the season starting to look for value, though.

Solely to make the waiting that much more painful and distracting, apparently the Cubs' WS odds at an offshore site mysteriously rose from 12/1 to 9/1 over the past day or so.

Cubs Sign Mike Freeman, Kyle Ryan To Minor League Deals, so no wonder the odds improved. Signing Freeman probably killed all of the Machado trade rumors too. =D>
