I REALLY like Schwarber on the roster.

I really don't like him in the lineup.

Stated differently, I like Schwarber over Stella or Coghlan. I don't like him over Soler.

I think, given a chance, Soler has more production in his bat than Schwarbs does in his.

Willy better than both right now.

soler sucks in cold weather

Yup, Schwarber is a mudder. Horses for courses & all that.

His mother was a mudder.

i know this is weird and paternalistic but man am I happy for him. think about how hard he had to crush that rehab to get back this quick, and that's with the disappointment of missing out on this entire historic season. what a stud. Strikeout 16 times if you want to, buddy, we're just glad you're here

Seriously, after that injury, how bad does it suck to watch this season, of all seasons, from the dugout? And for him to push, and work hard enough to make this happen....hell yeah, that's just freaking awesome.

Holy lord, whatever. I didn't realize expressing doubt he's going to be useful would be such a horrifying line of thought. My bad.

But thats not really what you did.

Yeah, it is. I also said that people might want to pump the brakes on him being some sort of magical beast of destruction but I get that reading is a difficult skill to master.

Get the horsefeathers out of this thread eeyore. Christ.

The reactions to USSoccer are a bit over the top. He didn't say anything that bad--or really even bad at all. I am as excited as anyone Schwarber will be playing. I have the same thoughts as IMB in that I don't even really care if he struggles a bit, I am glad he is on the roster and will at least get to feel part of the run. I am going to be so pumped to see him walk up to the plate. But it isn't crazy to say there might be a better option to DH--most specifically if Willson is kept on the bench. But again, as others have pointed out, there is no reason to think that this front office isn't making much more informed decisions than we are. There are times when ganging up on a poster is warranted--mostly if their take includes offensive slurs, but this seems out of place.

Anyway, back to being excited.

I don't think you're being sensitive enough about this.

well it was kind of ridiculous that he kept hammering the point home, calling people blind and called my response classless. And then doubled down on everything. It wasn't some measured rational response, it was a this is a horrible move by the cubs I can't believe they are doing it and that I am the only one who sees how horrible it is.

Yeah, my bad for trying to inject a marginal amount of rationality to the neverending stream of posts declaring that Babe Ruth IV is coming back and is going to just crush the ball right away.

I have a good feeling he'll do a little better than Babe Ruth IV.

I should have said I don't think everyone's responses were over the top. Most probably weren't actually. Responding that they realize he might be rusty but are still excited is fine. Your posts were fine. David saying there is a whole lot of results in between useless and amazing is obviously true, and yet good to remember. But pretending he is going to be sitting there like Lieutenant Dan in the bar if the Cubs win the world series was a bit ridiculous.

When he used the word blind he was saying kyle will *probably* struggle -- which again is not a crazy idea. I may be wrong, but I don't think he said it was a horrible decision and that he would be happy if he is wrong. Anyway, I know when posting back and forth, sometimes we overreact to what the other person is actually saying--on both sides. As I was reading through the past few pages (as someone who wasn't in the back and forth), it just seemed strange that the thought caused that much of a reaction and lasted as long as it did. But now I am just dragging it out and I don't want to do that.

some sort of magical beast of destruction.

This is what Schwarber means in Dothraki.

I'm not sure what he'll be able to do but if anyone could come back after 6 months and do something great it would be Schwarber, who has pretty much risen to every occasion that he's encountered so far. I think the measured response is to consider that anything he does do is a bonus. It's not like the Cubs are counting on him as some sort of savior.

Definitely. And if Contreras is in the lineup instead of Heyward and the decision is Schwarber vs Montero or Soler... give me schwarber. Nothing would surprise me with him.

Our site loves massive home runs. Schwarber hits massive home runs. He was predicted to not play again this year here he is playing in our first World Series game. There's a lot of magic too this so of course people are excited.
