I wonder if the players budget was already set before the Cubs picked up Hamels option? Or was Theo and Jed under the idea it was going to be more, than the Ricketts came in late and drew a hard line on salary. The tone of the off season sure did seem to change quite a bit from how it started to where it ended.

I think it’s okay to let occam’s razor guide us to “they made a dumb move” and not come up with a complicated timeline that somehow absolves them.

I think it was both they damn well knew what the money situation was going to be, and that generally they kinda suck at pitchers and panicked.

There is no money there next year either!! They were stuck with 1 year contract for pitching because people are getting raises next year

Financials on the buyback of the last 5% from the Tribune came out today.

The Chicago Cubs paid Tribune Media $107.5 million for the broadcast company’s remaining 5 percent ownership stake in the team, a deal that values the club at $2.15 billion.

At the Rickett's purchase price (845 million for 95%) 5% was worth 44.5 million. (unless I screwed up the math which is very possible and I already did on my first try)

We’re probably still way behind a lot of teams on this stuff. But good to see we’re finally doing things like this.

I would guess not actually. I think the Dodgers and Astros (and maybe Yankees?) are WAY ahead of the curve on this sort of stuff, and then we're probably in that second tier of smart teams. I mean in the article they mention that they've already got like 3-4 years of Kinatrax data, whereas Rapsodo and Edgertronic have only really blown up league wide over the last 18-24 months.

The Astros are ahead of everybody in this stuff and they just outright cheat, but I think we’re decently behind a lot more teams than you think (I’d add the Rays and Brewers amongst others to the above mentioned). At least in terms of having guys who truly know how to use this stuff and interpret/implement it to our benefit it.

?

Because the plane crashed, or because you flew into Sanford instead of Orlando Int’l. Because I’ve done that and it was annoying. Especially since my rental car was paid for and waiting for me at Orlando Int’l.
