Absent a better lefty option I'd as soon have seen Webster get that spot.

The key pieces here are Kintzler and Brach. Both are on the roster because of guaranteed money, period. If they're both bad - which is highly possible - the Cubs are going to be on the clock in terms of cutting bait on one or both of them.

Webster to AAA was likely the best move long-term. He can go to AAA now, but if he'd made the team he couldn't be optioned to AAA without be exposed to waivers. I'm assuming they are hoping to Swap Cedeno for Rosario soon. And then Barnette and Morrow are waiting in the wings also, which is when they may have to make some dead weight cuts.

While the slugger doesn’t walk much, he also doesn’t get the best stuff to swing at

In summary, Chicago's best hitter swings at junk out of the zone.

Edit--no mention of defense and baserunning either.

That's not a bad meme considering the offseason and early start to the season, but a good/better offense can help you overcome pitching woes.

I really don't want every Cubs game to look like a Big XII football game

It's butt, because signing a baller hitter would ideally give the Cubs at least a bit more freedom to maybe work out some kind of a trade for a non-butt pitcher.

Not to mention like .... what pitcher did you want them to sign anyway, keuchel?

I didn’t want them to sign any pitchers.

If only we scored 10 runs/game instead of 9.3 runs/game everything would be fine

I repeatedly and vocally hoped that they would sign Harper and then trade Almora & Happ for the best relievers they could net.

I'm not arguing anything. I was on the "sign Harper bandwagon" along with everyone else. But in the very small sample size of the 2019 season, I don't think Harper in the lineup would have made up for the laughably bad pitching

it's kind of true though. i wanted harper badly but i also thought it was a little odd that everyone was seemingly cool with the pitching

this train of thought never really even got close to the tracks did it

I don't think everyone was cool with the pitching at all. I was obnoxiously and loudly terrified of it, but plenty of other people here voiced far less annoying concerns, especially about the starters.
