stupid people fixating on strikeouts and how bad they can make you

I mean, sure. But they were a problem for Happ, few guys can be overly successful with 30%+ k rates. He had clear holes in his swing, he’s never going to be a low K guy but it’s good to see him not doing it in 20 ABs.

Fun fact:

In their last 16 games the Arizona Diamondbacks are 2-4 against the Cubs and 10-0 against everyone else they’ve played (Padres, Braves, Pirates and Yankees)

I think Theo might've gotten it right with Hottovy and Iapoce. At least with our offense I truly feel like he's helped quite a bit, in particular with oppo slugging.

And our starters are more efficient and able to go 7 more often.

I like what I'm seeing.

It is pretty amazing what a turnaround this has been from the first 10 games. This looks like a very solid team, though concerns around the pitching will continue for me based on age, no matter what.

The hitting is legit though. Even if Heyward and Contreras slow down, I expect a bit more of a boost from Bryant, Rizzo (who has shockingly pulled his OPS into the mid 800s again) and, yes, Schwarber.

think his post was pure sarcasm aimed at the guy pointing out how people are "fixated" on it

best case is he like the later years marmol who was bad but still kinda good?

Well, wouldn't best case be good Marmol? Because that slider is filth.

i'm not sure he'd ever be able to get his BB/9 even to the 4-5 range that good marmol was at.

later on it was higher but he was still a pretty good reliever

Remember the conversation I started on how good of a career Strop has had? Marmol’s career fWAR is third all time for Cubs RPs, ahead of Strop and behind Sutter and Smith.

Really easy to forget how good he was since he fell off pretty hard.

i'll never forget lights out marmol

At one point in late June 2008, he led the NL in strikeouts (or was really close, I can't remember exactly), which I just thought was completely insane as a reliever at that point of the season.

No matter how many times it's lights out for David.

i don't get it

It feels like many of your stories here seem to involved you talking about how insanely drunk you got.

He’s playing 2B in Iowa today, fwiw. He should probably be up sooner than later and be playing CF or RF (with Heyward in CF). But I suppose since Almora got his wRC+ over 10 on the road trip he can’t be replaced now and Happ’s gotta find a new spot.

Speaking of Almora...check out this stupid line from the last week:

.389 .389 .444 .833

Courtesy of a .636(!!!) BAbip.

He's basically a 2 outcome player in that time. 18 PA, with 7 hits and 7 strikeouts (and no walks, of course).

I'm here for the punishment. Chatwood, Heyward and Maples are all basically fixed (not perfect) and will be good contributors from here on out as the Cubs win the Central and the Series this year.
