That's not a bad meme considering the offseason and early start to the season, but a good/better offense can help you overcome pitching woes.

It's butt, because signing a baller hitter would ideally give the Cubs at least a bit more freedom to maybe work out some kind of a trade for a non-butt pitcher.

it's kind of true though. i wanted harper badly but i also thought it was a little odd that everyone was seemingly cool with the pitching

i dont remember anyone being cool with the pitching. I do remember realizing that Kikuchi (never not going to seattle) and Corbin were like the only SP options out there. If you ask me who I want to dedicate my offseason chase to, harper or Corbin, I'm gonna take Harper every time regardless of the condition of the pitching staff

now obviously we could do neither because daniel descalso needed to be wined, dined and 69ed but still

I don't think everyone was cool with the pitching at all. I was obnoxiously and loudly terrified of it, but plenty of other people here voiced far less annoying concerns, especially about the starters.

I think everyone, like literally everyone, wanted more done on the bullpen at the least. The SP seemed kinda split (I truly think it’s going to be fine and at least a little plus if not a strength).

The good thing is, I guess, is that bullpens are probably the easiest thing to fix on the fly. If we’re going to have one problem, in theory, it’s fixable in season.

The refusal to make any trades at all has been even more egregious than the wasting of payroll space.

Yeah, I've knocked them plenty of times for being too hung up on not moving "their guys," and was only about 75% of the time just being an obnoxious ass about it.

*Small Sample* but good to see this early on, especially since we knew it was an issue and he made an effort to fix it this offseason.

the ricketts wouldn't fire theo, would they? as disastrous as theo has been lately, that would still really suck.

They might eventually, but not this season. He'll get a new manager and an offseason to "retool" before his seat even gets a little warm.

He might run out of town on his own, though.

No way. I’m pretty he’s gonna leave in 3-5 years when his contract is up though.

2 more years after this year. at this point he's probably focusing on just finding a way to leave the cubs in decent position after 2021 so he doesn't face the same criticisms he did when he left boston (even though those were unfair)

Isnt his contract set to expire in ~2 years?

Three more, including this one. After 2021.

Right - he'll be leaving town with our core players.
