KB donged in his first AB of the spring. So we’re going to win the World Series.

Kyle's doom boner just went limp

Pfft. Kyle's doom boner is way stronger than a spring training homer.

He's been riding the "Bryant's shoulder is destroyed" train all winter.

100% convinced KB has been here and he's talking about Kyle here

Kris Bryant admits that he read some of the negative takes over the offseason about his struggles last season. The Cubs star heard rumblings that some fans wanted him traded. He read opinions about whether his power would return. Each item he saw was filed away internally and used as fuel in his workouts.

I will never abandon a doom boner because of anything that happens in a meaningless practice game:

A ST home run is like Mark Prior getting good snap on his towel

I mean, you do you

So either my doom boner is justified or I personally saved the cubs. Win-mostly win.

I hope Theo writes a book someday. I hope there is a chapter in the book about this off-season and the decision to stand pat. I really want to know why.

I think that chapter might have a few references to PTR.

The pitch was a strike, but he caught it like a horsefeathers and it was called a ball. Cool glove though and thing they’re doing with the extra L.

You need Theo to write a book to tell you why? I should think it's pretty obvious.

Chapter 16: The Offseason We Stood Pat

In 2019, I always wanted to sign Bryce Harper. But then my bosses (the Rickett$) told me I couldn't unless I got someone to trade for Heyward's entire salary. But I couldn't, so we didnt.

My running theory is that they were planning on signing him but when word of the Papa Joe email leaks came out in the fall, it became clear the kids would have to buy the old man out of his stake. So they held back cash to prepare to make that purchase.

Yeah; he's a complicit stooge.

I wonder if the players budget was already set before the Cubs picked up Hamels option? Or was Theo and Jed under the idea it was going to be more, than the Ricketts came in late and drew a hard line on salary. The tone of the off season sure did seem to change quite a bit from how it started to where it ended.

They knew before. Word of the budget crunch came out at basically the same time as the Hamels news. I think they spent the first few weeks of the offseason seeing what it would take to dump various salaries, didn't find the prices to their liking, and settled for this course of action.
