Let me go on record as saying that if we miss out on Carrasco and/or Ross to someone who offers the equivalent of McKinney, Contreras, and Stinnett, I will lose my ever loving mind and do the forehead injection thing. And I still don't get that reference. And if I claim consolation in the fact that we didn't "overpay," it will be a big, fat lie.

The thing that would annoy me is standing pat and Theo going on the radio and preaching patience and how he doesn't want to mortgage the long term prospects and how there has to be a balance between short term and long term etc. for the millionth time

Someone should throw a pie in his face if he says that. Hopefully he'll get a deal done.

If he doesn't I will wonder if money played a huge role in their decision. PTR will be PTR until he's not.

I dont agree with this at all.

Nothing against Mckinney, but he's an average defensive left fielder with a career OPS under .800. It's ok to trade him. Hoarding prospects was fun when they all have superstar potential.

And it made sense when we were laying the ground. But now that we have our cornerstones and much of the foundation, it's time to add to it. And I don't know if we'll be able to hang with the Dodgers, Yanks, Red Sox, etc. in the bidding for the big time free agents. This is exactly when we should be striking. And Ross or Carrasco would be exactly what we need; not meccessarily an ace, but a great #2/awesome #3.

I guess Im just not convinced adding someone like Ross will let us catch the Giants. I really wish the deadline was after the upcoming Pitt/SF series. youre right though, wanting to hold onto mckinney is silly.

Yeah, Theo shouldn't empty the farm just because, but aside from Baez, there's not much in the minors at this point that I would lose any sleep over trading to fill an immediate need.

seattle radio is connecting us to JA Happ

[expletive] why?

Hopefully that's just a weak attempt at leverage. That would suck.

for fucks sake, people don't want to trade billy flippin mckinney for ross or carrasco? please just post in the minor league forums and stay out of here please.

There's no way we're getting Happ, that has to be a smokescreen. If we do trade for him I'll join SCS in the heroin-injecting parade.

they were talking about it on seattle 710, seemingly castro for happ straight up, which would infuriate me. id join the injecting train if that happened.

You don't have to be convinced, it just has to increase your chances.

you're right.

Not to mention the benefit a cost controlled starter will give in future years.

The post was saying the opposite of that(losing out on Ross for the equivalent of McKinney/Contreras/Stinnett would be terrible), or at best it was SCS intentionally saying nonsense/trying to make a metaphor and failing.

I dont see the difference between Happ and Richards to be honest. He just isnt that good!

The freaking Twins lit him up for 6 in 3.1 ip last night.

No please no.

The mentality I don't get is the view that the Cubs must not be trying to win if they don't go all in right now. The biggest impact the team can make right now is another starter, but beyond that where should they upgrade? SS can be dealt with internally and every other position has either a rookie option that's doing just fine and stands to improve or has Dexter Fowler who is doing well enough for now.

With Ross or Carrasco the cubs can still go sign a top FA SP .. its totally worth it.

If they get Ross or Carrasco it's very likely the Cubs will not bother with a top FA SP at all, spending hundreds of millions of dollars to bump Hammel or Hendricks out of the rotation would be silly.

What does "all in" mean? I don't think what is being discussed here comes close to people expecting all in. Nobody is talking about all in. What they are talking about is the stupidity with remaining cautious and hoarding all prospects. This nonsense that it's just not time to try yet and we are too far behind to risk losing even one prospect for a chance at a playoff game.

I don't know where you're getting that from. I don't see many demanding that they go "all in".

in fact, now is as good as time as any to go "all in." you have a healthy and dominant lester and arrieta, something you're not guaranteed over the next 5 seasons or whatever.
