Even with punctuation, I'm not sure that would make any sense.

It had an exclamation point. That didn't clear it up for you, eh?

DO NOT TRADE BAEZ. He needs another look in the bigs. His swing adjustments appear to have made a critical difference.

I want a dynasty made up of ALL our badass young hitters. I want to the chance to see KB, Rizz, Soler, Russell, Schwarber, AND Baez all mashing at the same time and to see how terrifying that would be for opposing pitchers.

A fifth starter can surely be found without giving up one of our young studs, especially in a year where we aren't equipped for a playoff run anyways. If we were vying for the division, perhaps I would be reacting differently. Hopefully Theo is really drilling in on a "Castro just needs a change of scenery" strategy.

if Baez is fixed and ready, trading him would be insane. especially for kimbrel.

I don't understand how this keeps being said. The Cubs are already 2/3 of the way through a race for the playoffs and very much in contention.

i don't think he realizes that being "equipped for a playoff run" means having a playoff berth.

If young and controllable is the shortstop requirement for SD, wouldn't Castro (plus Torres) make sense to Boston, if they then sent Bogaerts to SD?

Lots of other pieces needed, obviously

I don't see much happening, unless we can find a partner willing to take quantity over quality. We really need a 5th starter, but to acquire the type of player they are targeting it would likely take Baez. They're not going to give up Baez when there is an equally glaring hole in the middle infield via Castro.

If

There is no way of knowing for sure based on a couple hundred AAA PA. If we bring him up again and he sucks anywhere near like last year, you will never get any substantial value for him again.

I'm not at all against keeping Baez and I have high hopes for him but if we need to let him to get a valuable player that we will have for the next 2+ seasons then I'm not at all opposed.

But we have no idea if he's fixed, and it's not so much that he's ready but rather he's become our best option through the two greatest words in the English language.

If Baez can perform like Wilmer Flores on the mets, that would even be an upgrade to castro

That lineup (minus Baez) is striking fear in no one at present

No I get it. I don't think we are going to make the playoffs and even if we do, I don't feel this team would be successful in the playoffs.

I'm afraid everyone they send them out, we'll score less than 2 runs.

That's my whole point. I want to see what it would be like if they are all clicking at the same time, maybe a year or two from now. This year they aren't all clicking for a variety of issues.

If they don't do anything the chances of that first part being a self fulfilling prophecy are high. And as for the second part, the odds are against any one team being successful in the playoffs, depending on how you define successful.

I would say making the playoffs is successful and where you go from there is largely due to chance. There's no such thing as a team built for the playoffs. They are all just variations of being built to make the playoffs. The Cubs probably need another starting pitcher and maybe a bat. And they should trade for one because they are never going to field a badass team of nothing but homegrown prospects.

It has at points in the season, though. I don't think anyone expected them to in their first season in MLB.

yeah they only have 2 of the top 8 or so SPs in the NL (and 3 of the top 15 or so). you really need to have the very top 5 starters in the league to even have a prayer.
