Jaime Garcia 2.25 ERA, 3.41 FIP

Wacha: 2.18 ERA, 3.56 FIP

Martinez: 2.94 ERA, 3.67 FIP

Lackey 2.93 ERA, 3.23 FIP

Lynn 3.03 ERA, 2.97 FIP

With the exception of Lance Lynn, every Cardinals starter is pitching well above their FIP. It’s so unbelievable yet so damn predictable.

Wacha and Garcia are glaring examples of FIP/ERA disparity, but Martinez is still within three quarters of a run, and it's not like Lackey being .3 runs below is inconceivable for a pitcher. If anything, we could only say the latter two are getting a little lucky, but not outlandishly so.

On June 5th, 2014, the Cubs were 6 games worse than the Cardinals.

On June 5th, 2015, the Cubs are 8 games worse than the Cardinals.

Why the [expletive] are you so negative? Every post is like a damn obituary. Enjoy the fact the Cubs have some talent and are winning half their games. Dammit.

More importantly, this has more to do with the Cardinals refusal to lose than anything else. They've lost three games in a row once. They've lost 2 games in a row 6 times, the last of which was 3 weeks ago. This isn't to say that they're going to keep up that pace, just that the distance between them and us (and the rest of the division) is a testament to them, not against us.

I really wish we had Chris Archer. Like, a lot.

He would've cost us Kris Bryant

No. Just CJ Edwards, Neil Ramirez, Justin Grimm, and Mike Olt. And as nice of a return as we ended up with for Garza, not to mention 2.5 very good years, I'd give it all up for that 20/108 BB/K, 1.84 ERA, 0.96 WHIP over 83 innings to go along with Lester, Arrieta, Hammel, and Hendricks?

Was us getting Archer even a thing?

Um, pay attention guy. We sent him to the Rays in the Garza trade. Rumor has it they had the choice of him or McNutt and they took Archer.

He's not negative, he's as positive as a Cardinals fan comes.

It was a joke. I suppose if Archer had been in our rotation instead of Garza, we would probably have been even worse in 2012.

Jesus, you listen to the announcers for this LAD/STL Sunday night game and you'd think the Cubs were just 10 games behind the Cards and Pirates with no hope going forward instead of a team on pace for 88 wins despite the bats having yet to wake up.

I follow the minors and prospects maybe 1% as much as most of you, and forget about them the second they're gone

Well we're not catching the Cardinals. The Pirates, maybe.

[expletive], I think even Mojo would know Archer was in our system.

i look at the cardinals' roster and i don't feel like they're that much better than us. then i look at their record and wonder how they're winning so much with that [expletive] roster.

They do it every [expletive] year. Just when you think they're going to slow down, someone like Matt Carpenter steps up until they trade him to Boston where he rots there (Allen Craig, Joe Kelly, David Freese, etc, etc, etc)

Last year after June 7th there were 3 teams at least 5 games up on their division, and this was nearly 10 games further into the season because this year was a late start.

The Blue Jays were 5.5 games up and missed the playoffs

The Brewers were 5 games up and missed the playoffs

The Giants were 10 (10!) games up and were a wild card team that finished 6 games out of the division

Alright, even if the Cardinals suddenly collapse which isn't going to happen (they'll probably regress at some point but it's the Cardinals, they're not going to 69 Cubs), the Cubs aren't good enough right now to take advantage of that and go on a run to catch them.

I'm seriously wondering if the Cardinals have some sort of mental conditioning program in place that teaches things like patience, mindfulness, and living in the moment - eastern concepts that would help players perform well in high and lower leverage situations alike.

Sure, it sounds voodoo, but practices like meditation are pretty damn helpful when you need to drown out 40,000 roaring fans and just focus on hitting a small white ball thrown at incredible speeds with a wooden bat. It allows you to isolate the task at hand and execute it.
