Cardinals just had the most Cub thing ever happen to them. TV shows a graphic about how they've allowed the second least HRs in the league this year and the first batter of the inning proceeds to drop one into their bullpen to give the Sox a 2-1 lead.

would be hilarious and fun if the white sox and mets helped us erase the cardinal sweep (sort of) right away

Bob just called for robot umps after the ump just completely screwed Collmenter on a strike three pitch in the Arizona/LA game.

Matt Cain, Jose Fernandez and Matt Moore are all pitching today. None have pitched in over a year

Jose Fernandez just homered off Matt Cain.

Just like Kerry Wood in his first game back.

STL is about to lose again. Them sweeping us basically got canceled out.

Pretty good last four days. Would have been nice if the Pirates lost one but I'm not going to complain since they just lost 5 of 6 to the Nats and Reds. Picked up three games on each the Cards, Giants and Mets.

The Cards/Pirates have a 4-game series after we play the Cards next week, so it's a good opportunity to gain some ground.

Isn't the opposite true? Unless the Cubs for 4-0 during that same stretch (and the Cards/Bucs split), they aren't going to gain much ground

His mindset was probably that someone has to lose, so maybe we can gain ground on somebody.

In which case he should root for a four game sweep by St Louis

God we need Soler back.

I'm pretty much the biggest Soler fan here, but it really seems like some people are overstating the impact he's likely to have when he comes back. He was basically OK at best so far this season.

He's replacing Mike Baxter and Chris Denorfia.

What?!? NO WAY.

Baxter in June:

.324 .405 .351 .756

Denorfia in June:

.279 .318 .393 .712

Soler in May:

.288 .336 .423 .759

Obviously everyone wants Soler back and he's ideally much, much better for the Cubs in the long run, but talking like he's all but a lock to give them an instant shot of mega-bat to a struggling offense might be jumping the gun a bit.
